not surprising, consider that if it is a factory alarm, there is just a chance that you run into a car that it's alarm is set to the same freq as yours. You know GM reuses it's freq's in it's alarms, actually most alarms are going to do the same thing. You just happen to find the needle in the hay stack that is the same.
man it's pritty weird.......he was parked right in front of me in the parking lot and we were like the only cars in the lot....it creeped me out a little
hahaha and thanks for the info!

One day I locked my keys in the car (idiot) so I called the road-side assistance, While I was waiting, a guy who was parked next to
me with his 1998 Sunfire asked me if I was locked outside my car and I said YES. He took his key and just fu˘king unlocked my door.
I had a brand new laptop and also a brand new 4 channel Alpine amp in the box on the back seat in my car.
When he unlocked my door I was like ???WTF???. He told me that with his 1998 Sunfire key he was able to unlock 2000+ cavalier doors. LOL
I went home to go put my laptop and amplifier to safety as soon as I could LOL. Is that normal??
what the hell man that is messed up!! if i had gear like that in ma car all the time i would upgrade my alarm sys. imidetaly!!!.....are all of them like that???? this is really sketching me out!

It can very well be possible. Not only with the alarm codes, but with key cut patterns as well. Automakers will use a set number of patterns and repeat them as needed, so...
Case in point, my ex-gf had 2 ford escorts, one a 1989 2 dr and a 90 4 dr. the same key worked for both cars (without rekeying anything). Just happened to be coincidental that she bought 2 cars with the same key cut.
Often times, as mentioned it is a "needle in haystack" scenario, but there is always the chance that it could happen.
yeah my key (98 sunfire) can open my sisters car (96 sunfire)
Yup, a friend in high school had a '96 5 speed Cav, I had a '96 auto. Both used the same door keys. It wouldn't start the ignition, but my key opened her car, and hers opened mine.

Back when I was a bit younger my Dad had an older silverado, he wouldn't even lock it, just kept the back slider open. One day some punks tried to steal the truck, when they opened the door they were met with our German Shepherd
. Best alarm system ever. (Note: NEVER keep a dog in a warm car, as this is DANGEROUS!) We did this when it was cool out only.
I'd have to agree with Mark O, best car alarm is a dog. Just training it to not eat your seats is the problem.
The key to the roll off truck I drive at work unlocks the door to the Ford explorer we have at work.. where talking the difference between something like a dump truck and a car.
My keyless entry for my Sunfire, sets off the car alarm of a silver Taurus at work too.
Once I had a few copies of my car key made and they where cut wrong just enought to unlock the door but not start the car. The ignition uses all the teeth on the key, but the door lock only uses something like half of them. There are also a lot less different door lock patterns out there than ignitions. If you replace your ignition tumbler, there is a certain set of door locks than will work with, or are matched to it.

Our Chevy Venture key opens our 03 Cavalier, but wont start it. They look the same too so its confusing sometimes.
I have a 2002 sunfire, and I can unlock my girlfriends 95 sunfire with the key as long as I pull my key out about an eigth of an inch.

my 2002 tacoma truck key opens my wifes 2001 highlander door AND our old 98 corolla...how's that.
GO PATS!!!
i unlocked someones' car the other night with my factory keyless entry remote. lol
i think i forgot to lock it back up though..

5 seconds to find another street...
The remote starter for my winter car used to set off the alarm of a friend / former co-worker's car. It did not, however, shut the alarm off. At times, as he would leave for the day, I would set his alarm off as he drove out of the parking lot.
When I had the Sunbird, I used to go to the junkyard...the cars would be locked up, windows up, everything...I didnt wanna break the windows, so Id try my key...I was able to open like 3 or 4 seperate Sunbirds/Cavaliers of various years with my key...
i found a damn key in a walmart parking lot with out the rubber surround on it one time.. it was in one of the magnet things that ppl use to put there spare key in under the car... tried it for @!#$s and giggles and the damn thing opened and cranked my car up.. i'm still using that damn key lol
just riding around in the 4 door cav
We used to try opening all eachothers doors at meets, but we don't do it anymore. If you get 15 to 20 J-bodies together... chances are if someone locks them self out of thier car, someone has a key

I disagree because I locked my keys in my car at the 02 bash and tried I know 40 different keys to know avail. I know that someone there had to have one that worked but by my luck, the 40 we tried didn't work so 15-20 is a little low,
However, my key to my Sierra would open the doors to my wifes trailblazer.
door locks use only the top, or bottom (dont rember which) half of the cutouts so the difference is astronomical between the sercuirty of your door and iginiation
the fact that the key fob opened it is actually a 1 in 1024 chance. the remotes use a rolling code 1-1024. so that is jsut a coincidence. the key working in other cars. like stated there are only so many combinations of tumblers you can do
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
