No Power to Amp.
Monday, December 31, 2007 6:31 PM
Ok so today i turn my cd player on and think hmm i have no bass thats strange, i check the settings on the stereo and they are all fine so i go check the sub and amp, my sub is not on and my amp is not on? and there are no lights at all on, on the amp. I've checked the fuses, connections etc but they all seem ok.
Its only a small system running like 200watts i think.
The amp is an MTX RT202.
All i can think is i have somehow blown the amp? Any ideas what is wrong or should i just take it back and get it exchanged for a new one and see what happens?

I had been having a real good day up until then.

Thanks in advance guys.

Yeah, I'd start by grabbing a volt tester and making sure you have power on the power and remote wires. If those check out, I'd start wondering if the amp has given up the ghost.

Sounds like remote to me. Did you wire it to the head unit? Mine is in the ignition fuse so I don't have to remove the dash to check it out!

i've got the same problem, but i cant afford a multi meter at the moment. can i take some left over wire and connect it from the remote on my amp, and then touch it to the bat. pos. to see if that makes it turn on?

So there should be power running from the remote wire to the amp? If not does this mean my amp has given up?
Yes the remote is wired into the head unit, I've checked and re-connected it but still nothing. I shall be taking it back tomorrow if i cant fix it and hopefully have a new one.

i also have the mtx rt202. the power light on mine comes on if i have the rcas connected to both the amplifier and the hu and even minute power from the battery. the light gets brighter when the stereo is turned on and the remote is thus powered. the only way that the power light is completely off is if the rcas are not properly connected at both ends, the positive from the battery is interrupted, and/or the amplifier has indeed "given up".

I would check the power to the remote, the power and I would also check to make sure you have a good ground. Then I would go from there. If it is not working then I would check your RCA's.
