Scosche GM2000 not working for headlights or open door?
Monday, March 03, 2008 6:42 PM
As the title states, I just picked up a Scosche GM 2000 harness adapter yesterday, but for some strange reason, it doesn't 'ding' for anything other then the initial start-up (as well, it's allowing my radio to function without a key in the ignition, after the door's been opened ).

Do I have a dud unit (gonna try to get a replacement tonight from Wally-world), or is something amiss in my car. All audio functions work... I can't think of what could be the problem. Bad fuse somewhere maybe? I even tried connecting in the exact order, to no avail.

a bad fuse wouldn't cause that problem....may its just bad, try a different one or just go with out the dings....to me sounds like you got a bad module...change it

iirc the chimes are all part of the stock radio, and if you want to keep them you have to get a t-harness and relocate your factory deck somewhere in the car

Chuck: That only applies to the Impala, Monte Carlo, and another mid-size GM vehicle that I forget. J-bodies are able to use a chime module to restore dinging.

I didn't get a chance last night to exchange it, but I will today. Gonna double-check all my crimps, although I'm positive my crimping isn't that bad (did electronics for a while in college).

Well, no-dice on the replacement. I'm going to check continuity later, but all my crimps seem solid, so I'm not holding my breath. I've noticed these particular units from Wal-Mart:

1) Made in China (says alot...)
2) Imported in the USA, by Scosche
3) only come with french instructions (wtf?)

<EDIT>

Just got a hold of Scosche tech, they're baffled. So they figured they'd send me a more expensive unit (typically retails around $120), and go from there. We tried a 'reset' which is nothing more fancy then waiting 30 seconds with the car completely off, doors closed, and the unit unplugged, but that didn't work.

<TRIPLE POST>

All crimps show continuity, actually, the entire harness does.

New toy from Scosche, all I had to pay was freight to them:

I have that same module in my 2003 sunfire, all my chimes work fine, it seems to do everything it's supposed to. I soldered my connections.

^^^^

But it's not a Scosche however.

I'm waiting for the Scosche replacement, I just learned it's pretty much the exact same thing, minus RCA connectors for the GM factory amplifier (of which we do not have on our J's ).

I just hit something here... My airbag light is on because my resistor mod - since I have an aftermarket steering wheel - broke off (got caught on my sub wire when I pulled). My airbag light is on... I can't see it disabling the ENTIRE chime system... But maybe it is?
