remote start and adding factory power locks
Wednesday, March 26, 2008 6:24 AM
Ok so i have a remote start already added to my car as of right now. And i didn't have power locks then. I got some power locks from a yard and i grabbed switches with key less entry cause the switches only have three wires coming from them. I didn't know the switches were different. so i didn't think about it when i was there. what all do i need to hook the locks up to my remote start? do i need any relays or anything? do i just hook them straight up to my remote start?

thanks for the help

If you are trying to install stock keyless entry you will also need the keyless entry module from the junkyard.

The easiest thing to do would have been purchasing a set of door lock actuators from ebay that are like $15 a piece and then hooking them up to a relay controlled by your remote starter. You would not have lock/unlock buttons on your door, but do you need them?

What remote start do you have? If it is a DEI then buy the 451M relay pack for $10, hook it up to an actuator mounted to each door and you are set. Plus it is far less time than trying to install all of the stock keyless parts, and running wires.
$.02

you could still use the switch but it would be kinda point less, just get some door lock actuators and use either 2 relays or the 451m relay pack...makes it real easy to wire up if you got a dei alarm. Im sure you could find a door lock relay pack for most alarms out there. What i did in my car was turn on the "locks with ignition", basically when i turn the car off it lets me out when i turn the car on (or put the key to the on position when i use my rs) it locks me in

I'm not trying to install the factory keyless entry. i just want to hook my power locks up to my remote start. i already have the power locks installed. and i didn't pay for them anyways. so thats not a problem. so i just need to know how to hook them up to my remote start(valet 551r). and yes my remote is a dei remote. if i get the module for the keyless wont i need the whole hareness for the inside of the car? and how do i hook it up to my remote start if i get it? Im also putting in power windows, mirrors and trunk. i already have the power trunk latch and the mirrors. i just need to get the windows now

so any help would be awesome

You have a 3 pin plug that has 2 skinny wires in it, it goes with the remote start. The remote start wires are green (+Unlock or - Lock) and blue (+Lock or - Unlock), hook them up to your door lock wires in the kickpanel of the car.
