Not much of a audio guy myself, so bare with me.
On my old 96 z24 i replaced the 6x9's, but i remember the wiring wasnt "pretty".I cant really remember what i did, but my first attempts at wiring in that car 8 years ago was far from perfect.
anyways, now i have a 2002ls sport and it has the factory Amp(what ever the best system was available stock), and one of the rear speakers is blown.
I did a little bit of searching and heard some after market stuff might cause issues? I searched and really didnt find what i was looking for about wiring up /replacing a 6x9.
So my ? is :
I plan on forever keeping the stock cd player and front speakers(unless they blow), i would like a little more bass in back.
What should i do as far as a replacement? just Order a stock replacement? I IDEALLY would like to upgrade ( 100$ or so price range)..
So if i go with a aftermarket ones(which ones?? you think)-- will the STOCK speaker wire plug, plug onto the new 6x 9s? Do i have to get a adapter plug?
Please point me in the correct direction.
Thanks in advance.
pioneer check out ebay and im not sure about the stock plug but im thinking your going to have to chop and connect the wires i have no clue which ones are positive and negitive but chopping and connecting should work.

Just to keep the stock plug there(even if I don't plan to reconnect stock speakers, I hate to cut a factory connector off), I would get some T connectors that crimp over the wires. It will be a clean and simple install, and if you ever want to go back to stock, you can.
Basically it will go like this:
If your speakers have spade connectors:
1. get some femal spade connectors(the blue ones) and splice them on one end of the speaker wire. This is the end that will go onto the male spade connector on the new speakers.
2. get some T connectors and crimp them onto the stock wires, it will be straight forward how they work. the "foot" of the T is where the new speaker wire goes in, and the "cross" of the T is what goes over the stock wire.
If your new speakers have push terminals simply don't do the spade connector step and just strip the end of the wire to go into the push terminal.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

good thinkin with the splicing, i would have never thought of that.

1 thing to remember - Your stock speakers are a 2-way BI-Amped set up.
Meaning that GM has 4 wires coming from the amp to each speaker.
2 wires go to the WOOFER
2 wires for the Tweeter
Ever notice if you Fade the Radio to the Front speakers ONLY the Rear WOOFERS still play? Well GM called that a 6 speaker sound system. the Fronts are a traditional Co-ax and the rear are consider 4 speakers. I guess our 6x9's are SUBS!!
Anyway, to get an after market set to work off of the existing wires, you need to either get a pair of speaker that have seperate inputs (Orion made some a few years ago) that would allow you to wire the Mids/Tweeters and woofers seperate. Or I use to UN-SOLDER the Mids/Highs from the Aftermarket speakers and wire them SEPERATLY like the Factory speakers.
1 thing to consider, you can possibly VOID the warranty on the new speakers if you do this.
Also you can BYPASS the amp and wire the new speakes Directly off of the wires coming back from the radio before they go into the amp, then you would be dealing with LESS power and More than likely not very good sound.
My advice would be get a FACTORY REPLACEMENT speaker if your budget is $100 or less like you wrote.
A Decent pari of 6x9's is gonna cost all of $100 or more by themselves.
ya that i was thinking that would be the best route ^. I know a guy behind the GM parts counter.
Thanks for the replies, really appreciate it
