Alarm installation
Saturday, December 20, 2008 3:52 PM
I'm installing a car alarm into my car and have a few questions. I have the compustar pro 1wsh-a alarm. I'm also installing 2 door lock actuators (car has never had power door locks) With the use of a couple relays. I'm also wiring up my trunk button to be used with the alarm aswell to have a remote keyless trunk release.

-Is there a bypass module I would need to purchase? or is that just for remote start installs?

I'm not doing remote start on my car. My car is bone stock no power options or anything like that except for the trunk release button. I also got a hood pin with my kit so that takes care of the hood.

-Do I need to solder in inline diode on the negative wire of each door switch that goes back to the alarm unit?
- how would I get the alarm to recognize the trunk being opened, hook it up to the trunk light, or is there a better way?

I would like to take my car to an installer but I don't like the price tag that goes along with that, I own a J for a reason.

I'm in college right now and have already spent more then I should have on my car. So paying a pro to do this is a no go. besides I like doing as much work on my car myself and after I get this installed I'll have better knowledge on how to do in the future if the oprotunity arises again.

First let me say I may be wrong with the info that I give you but it should be right lol. I installed a 50 dollar cobra alarm I think it was like the first week I had my car (last year)
It is nothing to be taken lightly. Your going to need at least a day to do it. I planned on getting it done in a few hours, and well that didn't happen. Trust me installing an alarm is not easy.

You don't need a bypass module.

-Do I need to solder in inline diode on the negative wire of each door switch that goes back to the alarm unit?

I'm not sure what you are asking here but why would you need a diode just hook the wires up to the door switches.

Trunk light is the best way. Just splice your + wire

This is a page of some info I found for my car. for the door triggers switches it says to diode isolate them and they also provide a diagram showing how to wire it up.

Quote:

NOTE *2 this vehicle has a GREEN/BLACK (-) for the DRIVERS DOOR in the drivers kick panel and a LIGHT BLUE (-) for the PASSENGER DOOR(S) in the passenger kick panel. When connecting to an Alarm system, use both wires and DIODE ISOLATE. See DIAGRAM

Not sure why that didn't work, but here it is again.

Yup, diode isolate em.

At my shop we do this.

For the trunk, I think the switched wire is actually, positive. So you'll need to use a relay to do this.

I see some bad replies in your post, so I'll get you fixed up.

No need for bypass module. Those are for remote starts only.

You will need to diode isolate both door triggers.

You can use the trunk light as a trigger.
