Looking for Audio Insite

Hey guys I need to replace some speakers in my car and I was wondering what you guys recommend. I want the audio in the car to sound good, especially with some deep bass. My pocket is limited so really looking for the best for the buck... Looking to spend maybe 350-400 on some 6x9's, 6.5's, and for a sub. I'm not including the amp in that just the actually speakers. I've got some 6.5 optidrives by lanzar that work well (not component), and some pioneer 6.5 that ok but would like to replace atleast the pioneers. Well guys I would love the input, this isn't for competition. Thanks alot.

My suggestions is to leave the 6X9's alone and let them run off the head unit power, or remove them all together. Get a good quality sub and front components and either do a 4 channel amp with the front channels running your comps/rear channels bridged to the sub. Or get a mono amp for the sub and a 2 channel for the comps.

Do you have an aftermarket head unit? You are going to be limited to not-so-desirable options if you are running the stock head unit.

Now you said $35-400 for just speakers/subs. That could easily be done, but get realistic here, you have other things to consider. What is your absolute top amount you are willing to spend on it all? Baffles, box, wiring, amps, speakers... You want to get a good idea of the budget on the whole thing before asking for suggestions on a route to take in getting better sound. You might only want to spend $350-400 on the speakers themselves, but your box could run upwards of $150 if done by a reputable box builder and if you can't do it yourself. Add anywhere around $50-$75 for wiring and misc. connectors, fuses etc..., then you have to think of baffles for the mids if you can't make them yourself, plan on another $15-20. Things add up quick, so make sure you have a budget in mind that includes everything you will need. It will help us help you a lot easier.

Ya I understand there's a lot to consider outside the cost of the speakers themselves... I actually have a Dual head unit, got it as a present recently so I'm keeping it, it was better than my last one as far as audio quality. As far as a box, I'm a fiberglass junkie so I was thinking of glassing a box or seeing about sticking the sub where the factory 6x9's would be. I've seen that done before, not sure what will happen to the sound stage or if it's possible to stick anything larger than a 10" sub there.
I was thinking of going with either Kenwood, Sony Xplode, Polk, Used JL, or infinity. I don't know what the total budget would be I assume 600-650. I get some parts as far as wiring, connectors and so forth on discount where I work.

I noticed you mentioned optidrive. It's some good stuff.

Do you have an amp?

My suggestion would be:

Lanzar Opti 6.1 components up front.

Lanzar opti 6x9 in the rear

One of the lanzar opti subs (all depends on what coil config you need n'at)

Lanman, I know you have been using all their stuff and love em, but geeez any other brand that you will EVER recommend? lol

Anyway, I would look into just keeping it simple for starters. a good 12 inch sub in a box in the trunk, and some nice front 6.5 inch components amped of course.

For speakers it is always going to be hard recommending them without you hearing them. Good brands to look into, off the top of my head, would be CDT, Alpine(nothing less than their Type-R's), Cadence is still selling their CWM-6Kit which is a very nice set of components for their price. Also, Boston Acoustics, Diamond Audio, DLS, Focal(more high end), MB Quart, Morel(again high end), Rainbow(again high end). So you have a lot of options, even with just the one's I recommend and know of.

With subs definitely look into some of the same brands I would look into Image Dynamics, JL Audio, Elemental Designs, Kicker, Fi, and some of the other brands I already mentioned. There are so many options depending on the sound you look for.

I would really consider Cadence ZRS amps. They are definitely good performers and a great price. eD has nice amps too. Lot's of choices for good clean power at a low price.

Hi JL,

We each have our preferences. I like Lanzar Opti a lot. It's good equipment, not bad on the pocketbook either, and dependable. You're a Cadence man for mid range gear, no problems there

For mid-range AMPS. And that CWM-6Kit component set is still a nice little set for the price, unbeatable at the price actually. But just making sure you don't think I recommend their subs or head units for anything in their price range LOL

so along with that Joseph guy, this Chris guy, and that other J name dude... I guess we can add an Evan to the list of trolls who just pop into a thread, give random ass recommendations without knowing their head from their ass hole on the subject matter, and just waste peoples time... Seriously just STFU if you don't actually know what you are talking about.

I've had good luck with digital designs. Image dynamics makes a nice set of tweeters that handle gobs of power. only thing is they don't come with a cross over so you would have to get one.
