radio in a 2005 cavalier
Saturday, February 14, 2009 8:32 AM
I have a 2005 cavalier and i hate the boring cd player it came with . I bought a new pioneer faceoff player to go in the car. Im having the hardest time putting a it in. The wiring harnest i bought that is supposedly for the car doesnt work for the car the power wires dont match up in the same places. I so fed up with this project. The onlt other harnest left is a 76 dollar harnest and that so a rip off. any suggestions

That expensive harness is the one you need to do it easily...check ebay, I got mine for something like $35-40.

no it isnt.... you need to run a new power wire thats all.. the power wires dont work directly from the car harness.. just run a red wire from your fuse box to the new radio and your set.

Scosche makes the correct one, it's sold at walmart for $40. If you don't use the right one, you will likely lose the chime that comes on when you leave your headlights on or leave the key in the ignition.

If this info is wrong, plz correct me.

EXACTLY, I used the cheap harness in my DD, I'm swapping it out for the RIGTH ONE. I've left my headlights on a couple times over the years. I'm getting tired of having a DEAD bettery when I do so. Usually on a Gloomy day or a rainy day, I will drive with my lights on during the day, well if I'm in a hurry I forget to turn them off and the next thing you know, I'm having a BAD day with a car that will not start.

Buy the GM2000 Scosche harness on eBay, you can get em for under $30 and they work great.

It all comes down to preference jess. Everyone else gave you bits and pieces of CORRECT info. these are your two options-

Option #1- Use your current harness Using the current harnes that you have, you will have to bring in a fused 12+(power) lead from somewhere to connect with your headunit. Find the main bundle that comes through your firewall ( it should be to the left of the steering column- and splice into the SOLID brown wire for power.*** Keep in mind if you do this you WILL lose your idiot bells i.e. open door, headlights on etc. But it is a lil cheaper and nicer NOT to have that stupid buzzing sound. You will also lose the delay shutoff and acc mode too. Nothing big if you ask me.

OPtion #2-Buy the Scosche Harness Pricing ranges anywhere from $15-120 bucks. Goin this route will get you a simple plug-in install w/o the power issue and will also save the idiot bells and features. So you'll have an aftermarket hu that behaves as if factory.**NOTE** I have gone through 2 of the Scsche harnesses!! For some reason they just kept burning out and causing weird ass problems. again this is just my experience with them. But anyhow there's your options fully explained as best as i could

Back in the day, cars wouldn't ding when the lights were left on. How did we get by? /sarcasm
