Do you think you'll need 2 runs for your setup?

Re: SINfire build progress

Probably not. Seems like slight overkill but if hes already got the wire why not?

What are you powering the fi with? You have a hi-output alt? I'm running 1500 w and my system shuts off with two deep cycle batteries and an oem alt... That's alot of power draw lol.

yes I will need two runs eventually there will be 6 runs and two 18's but for this year I am just doing one as money is limited, I am leaving the stock alternator but I am adding a second 185amp one therefor the second one will be soley for the stereo, I have been talking to a local very reputible, alternator shop and that is what he suggests that will work the best, long story why but I believe him as he has been doing this kind of thing for 35 years lol

for now I will be just runnin the kaption 250.2 which is rated at 1000watts rms at 1 ohm but was bench tested at 1358watts rms, which is very sufficient for this sub

tonight I have gutted the car and have started my wiring, have done my oawg big and added the connectors, which btw was a pain in the ass, the three wires took me almost an hour and thats with using a bench vice lol

hopefully I will get started running the two runs tonight and that will be it for today

well here it is all gutted except for the carpet as I had to do the big 3 first but tomorrow the carpet comes up and the other two runs of 0awg and three sets of rca's and speaker wire all get ran

and the BIG 3 is done now all in oawg

Looks sweet. Sorry on my 2 run comment earlier. I misread it while at school while avoiding be caught on forums by my teacher.

How much airspace does two 18s require? Is there even that much air in a Sunfire?

Lol that will be a MASSIVE box. I dream at night of trunk openings that big. Damn my convertible.

Did you ever decide on a wall or backseat box?

Re: SINfire build progress
Wednesday, March 04, 2009 7:39 PM
im going a wall 32 wide 30 high and 22 deep tuned to 30 htz and about 7 cubes after displacement as for the extra space on the sides I will building up them and making seperate boxes for my components and eventually will have two re 8's for mid bass also

Ok so when you do two 18s youll need 14 cubes? Once again I ask, Is there that much air in a Sunfire?

Re: SINfire build progress
Thursday, March 05, 2009 2:56 AM
yes as right now I am only using the back seat for the wall/box the trunk is not even being used so when I do two 18's things will be molded as the floor then use the trunk as the rear of the box and bring that into the back seat, the trunk can fit 9cubes my back seat will fit 9 if i build it right so I think I should have enough when that time comes

Are you planning on taking those wires in the rear under the carpet?

Re: SINfire build progress
Saturday, March 07, 2009 12:03 PM
no why would I? lol there will be a wall in the back seat so you wont see them and there will be an amp rack in the trunk so you wont see the back of the wall lol

why bother with 2 sets of comps? just going to make tuning everything and imaging harder....

reason for two sets is that my one set of type x's will not keep up with the bass of the 18

now before anyone says anything lol I can only get 3/4" mdf where I am, BUT onece the box is built I will be doubling every side with another layer of 3/4" so all sides will be 1.5" thick, also there will be bracing on the inside and then it will be all FG resined for extra strength, also the box will be 32 wide, 30 high and 22 deep, then it will be bigger after I add the extra layer, the port will be at the top, I thought about putting on the drivers side but it wont be an spl car so I am not worrying about that

well I worked today from 12-830pm, but got the wife to pick up my wood lol hahahaha

anyways... got home from work and checked out the forums and @!#$ then started to work on the box, here are two teaser pics one showing how big the box will be with my cell phone sitting inside lol

tomorrow should be a very good work day and my goal is to have it running by supper time...enjoy

well I have some good news and some VERY bad news, in order for the box to fit in the car I had to remove the rear door, once I got in half way there became another problem, there is a hump in the backseat area where the gas tank sits under the car, in order for the box to go in I had to pund the hump down a 1/8" all away around it, once the box was in I secured it to the braces where I already made, now once everything got hooked up, I went to start the car to test everything and all of a sudden I smell gas I look under the car to see gas pouring everywhere from the top of the tank EEEKK so shut the car pff and now I am taking it to a mechanic to see what damage I did, I am hoping its just a broken line at the top of the tank but who knows I really hope this isnt gonna cost me an arm and a leg cause if so I can tell you that the stereo will not be staying in the car as the wife will be PISSED!!! but on the good note, I did get it running and it is loud, once the rest of the build gets done it will be even louder I need to build the new front and sides for the wall and then clean up the trunk

here are some pics as I was working today

and yes the box will be anchored down VERY well and properly no worries there
