Gauge Cluster Mileage Flickering

Hey, My Girlfriend has a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire. On the Cluster, The Mileage display works fine for the first min or 2 of having the car running, then fades to almost nothing, not displaying the correct mileage. The car has 93000 some miles on it, and it shows that brightly when you start the car. After a few min, it shows 3344 faintly flickering slightly. However, if you give it the good ol classic slam on the top of the dash, it starts to work again for a little while. Anyone else having this problem? I know silverados 99-02 have a issue where the connection needs to be re-sodered as it works loose over time, anyone have this with there J Body Cars or similar issues?

Mark

Lots of people do, it's something loose, and smacking it rocks it out.

Mine did that from 50,000 on. I gave it a smack when ever I wanted to know the mileage, and traded it in at 108,000 and got 2500 for it, so not bad, in my eyes.

The LED is dying.

GM says its about $300 to fix it cause all they do is replace the cluster.

I just turned around and bought a sunfire cluster for my cavy from a junkyard. A few years later it started doing it too.
