well seeing as i named my other build log as the box build i figure i might as well make one for the overall build this year. this will include all my deadening and a few tips and tricks to getting some extra DB's out of the car. so first i should start off by saying that the entire box build is available if you click the link below:

Anton Miller's Kerfed Box Build

or you can watch this vid for the box build:

now what the build will have in it:

1 - 12" Fi Car Audio BTL
1 - Sundown Audio SAZ-3000
50 Feet - 2/0 Welding cable from Weldingsupply.com
1 - DC Power 270 amp Large Case Alternator
1 - Kerfed port box tuned to 34 hz, PPC Design Enclosure (Me)
1 - Kinetic 1800
LOTS - Sound Deadener Showdown CLD Tiles
ETC. If i forgot something just ask.

so, ill just start with pics of the equipment i have so far and go from there:

Now doing some work on the rear dash/deck. deadening and sealing it up to fix some rattles and possibly a better sound wave. it helped quite a bit on the overall sound of the system that i can tell. i have no clue if it gained or loss me anything on the meter. well here is the pics:

This is me fixing the rear dash/deck. i had allready had i covered by some black marine quality vinyl, but i screwed up and didnt plug the holes that were there for the 6 x 9"s that i removed so i decided well it worth the cost of the materials to redo it correctly this time. so i did. pics:

PROCESS:

AFTER:

CHANGED THE SOUND QUITE A BIT!

to be continued....

wtf does PPC stand for? I see people use it all the time. It's actually getting annoying now haha.

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

Some say he invented November.

mine stands for pure pressure concepts. kinda what i call my freelance box designing business. nothing too critical. im not sure what other peoples stand for. ive only done like maybe 8 box designs for people...

and i just ordered my term-lab, single sensor brand new!

just googled it, came up with Pay Per Click, for advertising.

That rear deck is a hack job.

couple things.

1. are those still the 6x9 holes causing the vinyl to show thru? kinda looks like it.
2. go to a dealership and get replacement seatbelt surounds. they are like $7
3. are you really using duct tape to hold the vynl on? how about vynal glue?

I was going to do something like that with the deck lid but with something manly like 3/4 MDF.

And I thought you had issues with the sub loading properly in those boxes?

1. Yes, a little bit, but unless you actually examine it you cant really tell. i was in a hurry and i tried to sand it down as best i could, but it just wouldnt take. lol
2. i was thinking about that. but im not too worried about those little things. thanks for telling me where to get them, i was just gunna go to a junk yard.
3. the vinyl is help on with all purpose flooring glue (real strong stuff) i tried the spray adhesive but sense the car gets so hot the glue like just stays tacky and never really dried. this stuff kept the contours of the deck. the duct tape is to hold the vinyl in place while the glue dried. but one word of advice do not intall it in the car untill the glue has sat for about 2 days. lol it really starts to stink up the car. lol.

and incase anyone one was wondering about the duct tape holding the plastic down was because i couldnt get a drill back there to screw it down. i used silicone under it then duct taped it down then put dynamat over it. it shoudl stay in place pretty good.

well im still not sure if its unloading correctly or not, just because im throwing so much power over the rated for the BL, it will and could cause over excursion. i was explained on ssa that the tuning of the box has control over sub in a certain frequencey range, plus and negative of the tunting. most people experience over excursion on lower notes, but since there is a subsonic filter i dont have that issue as much as i did on higher notes, so i lowered my LPF (to like 50, i hate high notes anyways) and it seemed to take care of it in the most part. it still does have some issues in the 43-50 hz range, but i think the BTL will handle these boxes just fine. I also think that the suspension on the BL is just toast. lol, you can move the sub in a out with your hand with easy, its just super loose. could be why the low notes do really good now...

the 1/4-20 bolts didnt fit through the basket, so i went ahead and drilled out the holes, if i would even call it drilling them out. i dont even know if i took and aluminum off or not. my guess is there was some glue in each hole that prohibited the bolt from going through. but i drilled the out and this is how i did it:

like i said i dont think i even took any material off the basket other than glue and sub surround. working on installing the sub now! im excited!!!!

im frustrated, the magnet diameter is bigger than the basket diameter, so its damn difficult to get the sub in and out. god i mean it took me 45 min to get it out, my arms are tired and ive lost all ambition. just PISSED!

but i will try to continue after dinner. lol.

What kind of a tard company makes the magnet larger than the basket? You can get the same BL with a deeper and smaller diameter magnet.

yeah that seems kinda odd. do they mention anything about it with your paperwork about installing from the back or something?

Thicker magnet with a smaller diameter with the same BL.

oh your talking about the T/S parameter not the Fi subwoofer BL. lol. do you mean they offer that? or that they could get the same? cause i think they like keeping everything uniform between sizes.

and im taking it out for a spin right now. its fully installed. its going to be on the 1500 untill i get the dc power alt. hopefully all goes good. lol

I mean that they could do that so I dont understand theyre magnet design. It just seems odd. Its not like most people who buy BTLs are concerned about mounting depth.

approximately 65 LBS. damn box was a biatch to get in by myself. lol. first impression is that the lows were not as good as the BL, probly due to not broken in yet, has about half the excursion of the BL, and the higher notes are about even, hard to tell. but im satisfied with it. i know there is more there, just gotta get the 3000 in, and get it broken in. about to go for a trip and im gunna blair it al the way to see if i can loosen it up. 20 minutes of air forces type songs full blast on the 1500 and the coil didnt even get warm. just amazing. and it didnt loosen up much. lol

Itll break in. You shouldve been here when I got my Z15 in. I was soooooo pissed because it sounded like @!#$ low. But now its fine. Took me probably a month to get the suspension to where I like it.

its getting better by the second im really happy with it. its getting to the BL on the lows and the highs i think are a little louder, still cant really tell though. i did manage to get the coil a little warm today though. lol, probly because i was playing low notes on it and the thing isnt ready for those low low notes yet. lol. but it loosening up. i took some vids and might have time to get them up tonight.
