I'm looking to put my system in, but i got a few questions.
First: wiring
I was looking into running a 4 ga power/ground wire to a 1,200 watt amp. Would this be safe or should I go ahead and invest in 1/0 gauge power/ground wire?
Second: dual voice coil subs
I have 2 12" dual voice coil subs, I was told to NEVER run just one voice coil on each. That being said, should i run them in parallel or series?
id say get the 1 gauge
and just wire them so they 1 ohm
but thats just me and im sure some1 will tell me im wrong but thats what i would do
I prefer the 1/0 gauge wire, but i was told 4 gauge would do fine. But i wanna make sure b4 i order my wires.
go bigger . . . if you cant afford the extra little bit of cost then wait till next payday and do it then besides it shouldnt cost that much more maybe an extra 5-10 bucks
Whats up people?
ugh...... some people who try and give advice..
ANYWAY, like an educated person who knows about this subject, I will actually try to get all the details before giving blind advice.
What model amp, and what model subs? Can't give ANY advice on sub wiring without knowing that. And it might not be an amp putting out an actual 1200 watts RMS, can't tell if 4 or 1/0 will be required.
AudioFire, you have the word AUDIO in your name, AND your profile claims you are running some pretty darn nice equipment. How do you not know what 1/0 wire is? It isn't @!#$ 1 gauge....
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
Liquor is not a drug John, liquor is not a drug.
no @!#$ it isnt..... holy crap first of all someone must say this
jlaudiocav ur opionin is the not be all and end all u dont kno all
and neither do i
as for 1/0 gauge sorry for not typing that in my earlyer post.....
and i dont claim to be running anything i am running that equipment youve seen the picks what more do u want pics of my receipts i will be sure to fully type everything from now on so u dont get all fussy and high and mighty
and do u do car audio install for a living case i did for a little and do a bunch on the side still
Yes and yes on your questions...
And I have met some hacks, so don't think that because you did installs you know everything. Seriously. I'm not saying my opinion is the end all, but the guy didn't give nearly enough info for any of you to start answering questions....
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

if u would read what i put i did put that i kno i dont kno all nice try tho....... and yes if he gave more info it would have been better but u can still give some advice and go from there like asking the questions after
like with the info u gave i would say ....... but if u give me more info i can give u a more informed answer
because giving out bad info like just saying run the subs at 1 ohm could cause allot of amps to fry and die. so saying stuff like that without knowing the info could cause someone to lose a couple hundred dollar investment. something most of the people on here would prefer not to do. ive judged so called pros who owned audio shops that couldn't even manage to get left and right on the rca signal worked out.
OP
even if 4 gauge wire is just enough to power what you have it makes more scence to just spend a bit extra on the larger wire incase you change amps or upgrade later on.

alright now.... we dont need to bitch eachother out over this. can't we all just play nice anymore?
woo seems like some drama struck up while i wasn' t on lol
model amp: XPLOD 1,200 watt XM-2200GTX
subwoofers: American Pro WS-9212
sorry i didn't give model numbers, i didn't know yall needed them.

THANKS YOU Jason!
Alright, now with the details the OP has given, here is what I suggest.... Burn it all and buy quality stuff. I kid I kid
If that's what you already have, and it's going to get used, here is what I suggest(for real this time):
-Amp power wire: That amp puts out a whopping 500 watts RMS according to it's rating. Being Best Buy special Xplod stuff, probably not even 500 clean watts... 4 gauge will be more than enough. I wouldn't be surprised if the power input is only 8 gauge on the amp LOL.
-Wiring your subs: Since you seem to have dual 2 ohm subs(what I can decipher from the part numbers), safely on that amp, you can wire each sub up to 4 ohms and run each channel of the amp to each sub. That's your best bet. I don't see this setup being super loud or anything lovable, but if it's what you have and you want to use it, go for it. We can't just say "throw away what you have and spend tons of cash on good gear" if you just want to use what ya got.

XM-2200GTX Details:
* 2-channel car amplifier
*
200 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms (250 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms)
*
500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)
* low-pass crossover (50-300 Hz, 12 dB/octave)
* variable bass boost (0-10 dB at 40 Hz)
good call on the 1-ohm load AudioFire

Thank you for your help.
On a side note. I'm actually trying to sell the amp and subwoofers and upgrade to good quality stuff. I brought the subs and amp back when i knew NOTHING about sound systems. Back when i thought sony was badass and american pro was a good brand lol. I'm just putting it back in to have some bass, while i'm trying to sell it. Once it's gone, UPGRADE!!!
ha nice man. having things like that installed is good for sales anyway because you can run it and show it's not blown. Lemme know when you want to upgrade

agreed, so many people buy equipment used, don't know how to put it in and they fry it, then they try to run back to the seller and claimed it never worked, being able to show them that it works is a good thing and will help with your sale and protect you a little bit as the seller.

Im here to defend Xplod.
It does the job if you dont expect more than what its RMS rating is. I got one for free before I got my 1000D and it wasnt a bad little amp. Didnt run hot and did mind low voltage. Had decently clean sound but I also had it on my Type R.
Though if I still had that amp I would like to slap a 1 ohm load on it just to see what it did.
given the info i had it was fine advice.
and givin the equipment wireing it up at 1 ohm would be doing him a favour.
riding him of such crap lol.. seriously tho i hope you get new stuff soon..
Doing him a favor by blowing equipment he could sell for money? Your a dip@!#$. Just stop talking.

wow... cant we all just get along?... pleaaaaaaase!
Yea really guys lol. Well it's and hooked up. I'll take some pics. after i get off tonight to please yalls murdering each other lol.
Oh I will come back after i sell them, for ideas on my next system.
Awesome. BUT, sub+amp does NOT equal full system

true, but for me in this car it's a full system lol
