very dissapointed in Hahn racecraft.....

well I was debating with my self for the longest time about even posting this, but I figured that what happend would probably (if at all) only affect the opoins about the company in one aspect, and what happend needs to be heard, so hear it goes.

Some of you might rember the post I made about hahn racecraft and buying there oil return kit, ((for those that dont) I was more then pleased with ther customer service and how they dealt with me. the only problem was what they were telling me was I just didnt know it at the time. it wasnt close, it wasnt miscomunication, it was just plain wrong.

the overview of the conversation was me calling up and asking for product support. I was put on the phone with a guy named brad and we went therw the bascis. year make model....etc. when he had all that down I told him that I needed an oil return that didnt need taping, he told me that none of the kits he sold were tapping applications (this was his excat words). he told me that they were bulkhead fittings, and they sealed them selves.

well I was sold, I droped the hundred dollars and was more then satisfied.

fast forward a couple of days. my kit came in faster then I could of ever imainged. and I was so excited. I riped it open to find an L shaped fitting, that was undoubltey the oil return peice (along with the rest of the kit which I didnt need I just wanted the non taping oil bung). but what was confusing me was the fact that there was know other peice to secure it to. I was told that a bul head fitting secured from the inside of the pan and selad it self.

so I went to the phone and got there tech on the line. I went threw the product info and all the other BS, and then we got to the problem.

me: so yeah I was told that the fitting was a bulk head style and should secure it self.
tech: the ecotec kit?
me:yeah
tech: nope your blocks thick enough you have to tap it
me: ........
tech: you there
me: *sigh* ok so what size tap do I need
(this part is what put me over the edge)
tech: well its either going to be a 1/2 inch or 3/8

I made him repete it about three more times so I know he was sure. he just kept insisting.

So it was off to the hardware store....on my f'ing bike. (you know pedals)

I picked up both and went to my oil pan and drilled the holes, wouldn't you know it its bigger then half inch.

well bascily Im done dealing with these guys. I know there a great company and I still would suggest them over any one eles, but I just am to busy with my turbo project to deal with people that are going to give me false info.

just in case I didnt get my point across. I spent 100 dollars on an oil return fitting becuase I trusted the name. I didnt want to deal with any one else becuase this was "hahn racecraft" and to me they were who you go to when you want @!#$ done right.

well the shot that to @!#$t didnt they

you most likely need a 1/2 npt tap... you probably picked up the standard "actual" 1/2 inch tap

the npt taps are harder to find, and usually come with a drill bit that fits it....

just a thought

I have bought the same kit and tapped it with an 1/2 NPT tap and then jb welded i around it and its never seeped oil or leaked at all. I'd recommend tapping the pan just for a more secure line. I have the tap if you wanna buy it for like 5 bucks.

um im sorry but I dont really feel sorry for you tapping is part of a turbo setup, if you dont realize that then you shouldnt be doing it

What Acer said is correct.
you bought a 1/2" NF or NC tap. This is for a 1/2" bolt.

What you needed was a 1/2NPT tap which is about 3/4" in diameter. It requires a 23/32" drill bit which will not fit in a common 3/8" chuch drill (that most people have).
Also, it is extremely unlikely that you will find an NPT tap larger than 1/4NPT at most hardware/autopart stores

thats fine and if that was what it came down to. but if you would read, I was told that I woulndt need to tap. His exact @!#$ words.

if they had said listen your going to have to tap, then I would have told them no thanks. but they sold me on misinformation.

so yeah.

ethier way I got it to work. I just felt @!#$ over. I was told one thing and got another.

Considering their reputation, I don't think this is going to hurt the company at all. It's nice to see that they too have problems as every company does. This is minor and I'm sure if you called them and explained they might be willing to help you out or something.

nah I havent really bothered. I doubt they would give a refund unless I sent them back there product, and its in my pan right now.

It was a pretty penny for what it was, but @!#$ happens I guess. every one makes mistakes, I just kind of sucks that it was on my product

Dude...I even told you you would have to tap the pan. I know I did. I don't know what you thought a bulkhead fitting was but they ALWAYS require tapping. I'll place 10:1 odds that Brad misunderstood what you wanted. He isn't going to lie to you just to make a sale. He has enough paperwork to do to keep him busy without adding more. He's a great guy, like the whole HRC crew, and wouldn't, and frankly doesn't need to, stoop to lying to make a sale.

I'm sorry that you didn't get what you wanted but like Matt said...if you didn't want to tap then you shouldn't be playing the game. Your only two options are tapping and welding....and I don't mean JB Weld. You can use that as a sealant but if your even CONSIDERING using that as a main means to hold in a very important fitting like a return line pan fitting you need to sell all turbo parts and go buy a Yugo. That's really cheaping out and not caring about your quality there.

you did, but I can tell you I am 100% sure that I was told it used bulk head fittings. I will swear on anything. It had been a while since we had talked and I had forgoten our converstaion up unitl I went back and looked at it.

oh well

but please dont talk to me about geting my hands dirty with custom work. I peiced my own kit together, ran a standalone that is barely used, and have been threw about 100 welding rods. (im buying a real fning welder when this is done) so lets put this whole "you dont wanna work at it BS to rest, K )

btw you never did find me that part like you said you would.
it's cool though, no worries.

you could quit being a nancy and just order a flippin bulkhead fitting instead of crying like a little girl about tapping an oil pan.

He has a bulkhead fitting...they requiring tapping...which he was told by AT LEAST 2 people with LOTS of experience with the HRC kit.

I don't see why everyone is complaining at him.

If you tell me Goodyear's tires are square and i have to trim them into a circle. If i talk to a Goodyear rep and he says they are round from the factory, but they get to my house square i shouldn't be able to say anything? 99% of people are going to beleive the rep and not other people.

It just happens sometimes.
