Garrett GT3571R

Hi all,

Anybody using a Garrett GT3571R turbo on the Ecotec 2.2?
I know GM used it on their Phase 5 car and got over 500BHP out of it but Garrett rate it around the 350HP mark.....

I'm looking to build something that will pump out over 400HP. Any pointers appreciated!

for some quicker spool, you might like something along the fines of a Garrett GT30R.

I may not have an ecotec 2.2, but I'm using it on my 2.4L twin cam quad 4 wannabe.motor.

Ok... going to have to check those spoolers out!

I'm looking for pistons too. The GM 88958635 piston kit is no longer available so I'm looking for a kit/components with similar or better specs. Here's a description of that GM kit:

Ecotec Racing Piston & Pin Set
Designed for use with connecting rod P/N 88958618 and
crankshaft P/N 88958620 to create an engine with 2.0 liters
of displacement and 10.5:1 compression. Pistons have
1.5-mm compression ring grooves and a 4.5-mm oil ring
groove. Set comes only with the first oil ring, which uses a
locator to specifically fit the piston. Engine builder must
supply remaining rings. Set includes 21-mm-diameter floating
pins, but for applications greater than 650 horsepower,
use pin set P/N 88958639. Kit includes four pistons, pins
and oil rings.

Up in the $40k mark which ain't a bad price for a Lotus chassis.

What's the GT3076R going to do for me? Anybody actually using it?

it's a smaller version of the GT35.

I started out on my 2.4L quad with a T3/T04e from www.cheapturbo.com, then upgraded to a GT30. Looking at the two visually about the same size, start looking at the details, differences are huge. Then driving between the two, like night and day. GT30 spools up rediculously quick, whereas a GT35 would at least in my case would only be useful in over 20lbs of boost and will end up making the car really peaky instead of the fatter range of power i'm getting out of the GT30.

you should run some calculations, regarding the horsepower you're shooting for, the boost you intend to run, and how high you're revving the motor out. Map it out on a GT30 and GT35 compressor map, to see which turbo will be running most efficiently for you.

Thanks SpyhunteR

Anywhere I can find an example of how to do those calculations and map to the compressor maps? Am new to boost!

Looking to generate 400+ HP, into the 500's if possible. Will build with a 8K RPM limit in mind.

This thread has a pretty good write-up on the calculations required.

that opel will be sick with 400-500hp you'll have extreme traction issues i think but should be good fun.

The engine is mounted on a specially designed cradle so it can push lots of horses.
