410hp is always possible just depends on how much money you have

when its built motor yea, however just about everything else on the car breaks with that, so its nothing more than a dyno queen

He's a bigshot now because he has a Cobalt SS.
::rolls eyes::
I mean't is it possible b/c of the block's strengh. Thats cool someone went balls out on a cavy for power. Thanks guys.

What does a cobalt have to do with this discussion? Nothing, big words from someone thats been driving for 2 years
Point being theres not a tranny that you can bolt up to it that will hold the power, and thats what did that car in. A few years back there was a ton of threads on it. Its also not just the transmission that you have to worry about breaking, if you have ever rode in even a 300hp cav it feels like its going to explode, you need a significant amount of mods to support the power, having an invinceable motor alone wont get you very far
An F23 or F35 Getrag will burst at that power level, so the cobalt is no better, the cars we drive arent meant for 400hp you have to build them to handle it, which is more of a pain in the ass with time and money than most will put out
pretty much any jbody engine im talking 2.2OHV, 2.4, or eco with forged internals, stonger bigger valves with some headwork will hold more power and not break before the transmission will, cranks or block strength is rarely an issue when a motor is taken that far as only a few have done
Example the GM Ecotec race teams in NHRA are well over 1100hp and they are using a stock block, internals are different, really the oil system is the only real difference

The NVG T-550 transmission bolts up with minor mods to the rear mount and linkages and it has been proven to hold over 500whp in other applications... I'm glad I found myself one out of an Achieve SCX last summer and did the swap
In all seriousness though Rodimus is right, 400whp is always possible with the right mods, setup, and tuning. Now that HPTuners is actually out for the 2.4 engine I wouldn;t be suprised to see some of these guys who have been hovering in that 300whp mark to start hitting much larger numbers now that they can affectively tune for it. The only real issue with the jbody is it's just pretty much all gotta be custom so not many people are devoted enough to take the car this far. As far as the block and crank itself those are said to be pretty bulletproof, the necessary mods to hold that much hp are the rods, pistons, headwork, and absolutely something with the oiling system as the 2.4's are notorious for not having a very good oiling system.

Mike Karas was using a stock 4T40-e and that held the power pretty well. If I remember correctly, he was going through axles but never broke the trans. The NVG is also a good point although it has a breaking point as well. With a smooth powerband, it can hold upwards of 500whp.
The power is more than achievable, it's inevitable. The person with the right know-how and enough money will come along eventually and shatter the 410hp mark. The biggest problem I am seeing is that people are trying to make gobs of power on 91-93 octane and their simply isn't enough room for a turbo efficient enough to make that much power with so much timing retard. Hopefully with the addition of the newer tuning software higher numbers will be easier to see. The motors can handle it.

I've got some tricks up my sleeve
some of them will include alky injection full time, as well as 110 octane race fuel (i just love the smell wayyyy to much ) I have a place right up the road from me who sells it so even though it's a bit pricey it's also convenient.

His registry has always said it was a 5 speed with cryoed gears. I have never heard oh him usung a automatic.

hey guys,
never saw this cavy in action before.....dont know if im believing he made that much power. the dyno sheet in his profile shows like 350 horsepower. i think Boosted2point4 has him beat with the vids definately and i think power also but maybe i am wrong. turbo looks like its a bit laggy also but i guess that makes it easier on the dyno. just adding my comments on here. i cant wait to post my videos this spring, i think some people will be suprised. we are really shooting for this 400 horse goal.

He definately made that power, and he had many well-known and trusted members who did see that car in action, there is no doubt to whether or not he put down those numbers. The 350hp run was on lower boost IIRC, it was up to 24psi or so on the 410hp run. The turbo was a T3/TO4S 60-1 I believe (may have been 62-1), .63a/r exhaust.
Other than breaking axles, he had problems breaking crank gears above 7000rpm or so.
It still amazes me that after all these years, it is still one of the most powerful Js ever on the org.

There are ways to build and use power without breaking parts. I have owned a 455 powered '79 Monte Carlo since 1991. The Buick engine makes gobs of torque, more than enough to blow the 7.5" OE rear diff into splinters. Yet the rear axle lasted until 1996, when I replaced it because the axle bearings wore out due to high mileage. It's all in how you drive.

I disagree.
When you make high hp you need to keep in mind that torque, not hp, is what breaks parts. If you shoot for 300 hp below 6000 rpm then you're looking for at least 260 ft/lbs of torque which is approaching or exceeding the rated limit for many of the fwd parts available from the factory. Shift that 300 hp to 8000 rpm and you're down to less than 200 ft/lbs of torque, which is much more likely to fall within OE design parameters.
The same is true when racing. Sudden shocks to the drivetrain breaks parts due to the torque imparted. It's possible to break parts with a stock drivetrain. I've seen the results plenty of times. It has little to do with the horsepower produced. It has everything to do with torque.

Now that's 100% accurate.

I think in the next year or two your going to see some ecos on here in that range, theres alot of guys that are raising the bar for that motor
Hypsy, PJ, Owen, QBE, Suncavi, they are all going to be up there on power

My mistake, that was you with the auto, he has an isuzu trans with cryoed gears and an LSD.

Go read around in the P&M forum and let this thread die please...

I tried searching, but I couldnt find his thread where he made 500whp.
