Oil feed and return line (line size)
Monday, March 19, 2007 6:34 PM
Ive been reading about oil feed and return to a turbo for when i boost my car. My question lies in the amount of pressure the turbo needs, or oil volume.

I read that they are gravity fed or something, so the oil outlet on the turbo needs to face downwards.

I dont want to ruin the turbo or anything, its a t3/t4 turbo. what size feed and return lines should i use?

the oil return line is by gravity, I used a 3/4" and make sure it is straight (no kinks) and down.

Thats what i read about, it might have been you who posted it... i dont remember.

what about a feed line, ive been looking around a lot of places and people are using like -3an -4an lines... is that what i should be using? is there such thing as too much oil?

You can definitely run too much oil and drown the turbo. Run a BIG drain tube and I may be switch over to 1/8" feed line this next season. But in the mean time, my restrictor from ATP seems to be working great to bump down the volume (since my feed line was far too big last season)

standard t3/t4 hybrid turbo oil feed lines are -4an, the drain needs to be vertical so gravity will drain it... the feed doesn't matter if it's vertical or not, the pressure will take care of that, just make sure you buy a oil feed restrictor so you don't flood your charge pipes with oil...

So, a -4an line and a restrictor as well? what size restrictor?

for my oil feed i just used braided SS line from the 1/4" plug to a $3 bent brake line pipe. my restrictor is 2.36mm I made it myself. for $3... and it only took 10mins :shug
at the max, oil pressure would be around 48psi with it.(where it should be)

My oil drain is about 3/8" or so, with 1/2" fittings. Is this too small? I'm still leaking oil out of the turbo and trying to figure out why...
