Help me deside on something! 95-99 or 2000+ 2.4

Well everyone I've been kinda in the background for a while. I've put the cars off for a while to get life straight, but now it is time for me to get back into everything hardcore to get everything done in a descent time frame. Since I still have the goals of over 400 to the wheels I don't think I'm going to have to many problems doing this since so many of us are up there in the numbers. The turbo kit is a used JMTS that I'm getting off a close friend of mine. I also plan on maybe running a direct port shot in the 2.3 manifold I'm working on. It was going on the 2.4 out of my ex's '97 Cavy, but this is where my plan is maybe going to change since I'm thinking of using a 2000+ body & engine harness to help with tuning issues I've seen come up with people using the 95-99. If I do the 2000+ harness on the car I should get a 2000+ long block for the build also right? I know the knock sensor and the lack there of the EGR for the 2000+ are different, but could I run the 97 engine with the the 2000+ body and engine harness? Simple question, and later down the road I will let everyone in on what everything eles is going on with the car. There have been planing from top to bottom on everything eles, but this question about the block is kinda holding things up. I don't want to waste my time with the 97 long block if I should just get the 2000+ 2.4

Sure you can run the 97 block with the newer harness, as you said the only difference is the knock sensor which can easily be re-located. (I just did this 4 weeks ago on a 98 block into a 2001)

You know, you could also avoid the whole headache and use the 1997 Speed Density PCM... it's not proven YET but very very soon it will be... I'm going to try to run a 2 bar setup on it within 2 weeks or so.

In that case you can keep your low impedence injectors and your 1 wire knock sensor and just focus on the engine.

Finally we have options!

See this is why I posted to find what my options really are now with HP tuners and everything eles out. What is this Speed Density PCM really? I've not heard of it. Also for the EGR just use a block off plate still? Thanks Chris.

EGR needs a block off plate if you don't have an exhaust manifold with the EGR deleted... if you're gonna go turbo and you don't have the EGR passage cut then you don't need to block that hole up on the front side of the head, though you could, just to keep crap out of it.

As for the 1997 pcm... go to the tuning forum and check out the thread "Confused about my HPT files"... you'll get updated really quick.

Also just a little trick you can use a 2000 exhaust gasket to do the same.

The speed density is map based instead of tps based....so it's like mine where I can tune it based on pressure instead of tps. which is 10x better than tps tuning lol.....

Or you could go with the 2000+ and I can just flash a 2bar setup on it

one post left!! lol

Well... you can also go with the 1997 speed density PCM and paste the 2000+ GMSC tables into it and... voila. 1997 GMSC pcm, minus some aspects.

If you are going to get a header, and you plan on using a 96-99 motor, definitely get the 2000+ exhaust gasket. Make sure you get the metal one from GM too, not the felpro junk from the parts store

Yep you got to love that GM discount. I can't wait to get the turbo header in.
