Z24 S/C on a Ecotec?
Sunday, July 01, 2007 7:40 PM
Can a Z24 S/C work on a Ecotec? IF so what all needs to be done to make it work? The reason is the Z24 S/c kit is so much cheaper then the Ecotec S/c kit!

the z24 and eco are 2 completely different engines, so yes an adapter plate to mount the supercharger to the ecotec head.

not really, you would spend more money trying to make it work than buying the right one first.

m45 or m62....

shouldnt be a hard decision

the one built for the ecotec has MUCH more potential than the m45 anyway

^ yes just save and buy the M62. It will be much easier, comes with everything you need and you wont have to guess if it works.

$2800 i might as well go Turbo, i was going turbo but i want it tall at once, and dont have time to wait for certain parts go for sale... Didnt the org had a group buy on turbo kits that was cheap?

Would this Work? Is the for real and could i just buy the S/C and get the other parts?

yes that is the blower but you still need alot more things. Me personally I would buy the kit as a whole...I think it goes for around $2,4xx....

It would be pointless to do so the M45 is inferior in virtually every way

its the same blower but you would still have to find the manifold and all the other parts

the advantage to the blower compared to a turbo kit is that there is no waiting for lag and the kit is made by GM for the car, so its incredibly reliable and can even be covered under warranty

He said that because if you weren't a nOOb you'd already know the answer to the question you asked. It's the same one that's been asked no less than 25 times already.

Would you guys relax. He clearly stated that he just wanted a few extra ponies for about half the price of an ECO m62 setup. There is nothing NOOB'ish about that. Many of you cry about paying 800+ for an equal length turbo manifold. We all drive J-bodies, which is a first indication of how frugal all of us are. So how about we stop the hypocrisy.

I don't own an ECO, so I couldn't tell you whether or not the charger would clear the hood when installed, but all you would need to do is...

-have someone fabricate you an adapter plate (which would be a little more involved than making a 2.3-2.4 adaptor flange) or port match the runners to the head (not sure if that is even possible).

-have the bracket that holds the pulley shortened or lengthened accordingly.

-You would probably also need the air inlet where the throttle body goes ported for the stock 58mm ECO TB and drill new holes to mount the TB.

-Lastly, you would need some way of tuning the setup, since the ECO charger reflash won't work with the m45

That should be about all. Like others said though, don't expect much out of the m45 charger. If you originally had your mind set to turboing, I would definitely go that route. There are plenty of upgrade options when it comes to turbos. With supers you pay one lump sum and are kind of screwed when it comes to wanting a significantly greater amount of power without re-buying everything.
