hey guys im boosting my 96 cav z24 but i have a big question with my pistons .. in know that if i dont want to go over 6 lbs of boost a dont need to change my pistons .... BUT what about if i do want to go over 6... my question is : can i get any biggger pistons from another car of brand other than wiseco pistons that will lower my compression and work with my car
thanks i will appreciate all your help

My head hurts, lol.
Aftermarket pistons aren't stronger because they are "bigger." They are stronger because they are forged instead of casted or hypereuratic. Often times, forged internals are also lighter than stock. I would be more worried about your rods before the pistons. It's not a pretty sight seeing a gapping hole in your oil pan because your rods couldn't take the abuse. But if you get forged rods, you might as well get the pistons too...save yourself time, money and future headaches. Also, you remove material from the piston to lower the compression ratio.
JE or Ross will make you any custom piston if you don't like wiseco for some reason.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
Venolia also makes pistons but they cost a fistful of dollars

i have purchase wiseco already but i didnt get the rods ....thinking that i could use the standard rods... so what you are saying is that is also recomended to change the rods for forged ones ....
thanks
The stock rods will in most cases fail before the stock pistons do. So yeah, upgrade those as well.
Actually on the Ecotecs it seems to be the pistons failing before the rods, as weird as it is.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

Theres been some thoeries (which may be total horse@!#$) that the 03 pistons are different but the rods are stronger than the 00-02 ecos
never had 2 of them side by side torn apart to confirm though, generally though the 02s seem to bust rods before pistons and the 03-05s like to bust ring lands
Regardless both the pistons and the rods are cheap @!#$ and should be replaced with forged stuff for any serious power above 250whp

thanks to all for the info ... one last question .......
which is better FMU or SAFC ???
Not too sure about the other engines, but I'll tell ya that my 2200 rods weren't even worth the consideration of shot peening to use later. They would've snapped like a twig regardless. Pistons were a no-brainer just because of the amount of boost we'll be running through the car.
I went with Eagle H-Beam rods and Diamond forged pistons; with everything else we did, compression is down in the 8.2 range for our future plans with the car.

Between those two, FMU would be your best bet as the SAFC doesn't have much potential on a vehicle that uses Alpha-N. The best choice would either be HPTuners, a full standalone, or wait for Shifted to complete his ASS KICKER ECM.

thanks a lot for the info ... so with the FMU there is no need for a FPR then?
this one will be my last question
thanks again
also be aware hptuners doesnt support the 96 ecm. you'd have to either swap and rewire a 97 to use hptuners, or swap and rewire to a 95 to get a burnable chippable (technically) system.
