Trying to remove the stock 2.8 supercharger pulley off to install the modular system from Nathan.
1. The threaded bolt of the puller is too wide to fit/thread into the threaded end of the s/c rod.
2. It's impossible to keep the pulley & puller jaws from turning whilst trying to turn the threaded bolt to pull the pulley off of the s/c rod.
How did you keep your jaw puller still? Is there anyone in the Detroit, MI surrounding area whose done this before?

What size is the small part of the main threaded bolt?

Get a gm power steering pump puller. It will pull it right off and it is about $20 at advance auto if I remember correctly.
AutoZone around here doesn't have any in stock, but I heard the power steering pump one is the worse of the two choices to use. I just need to find a way to keep the pulley from turning as I crank with force on the main threaded bolt.
If I can get a double-diameter bolt, one size that fits the puller I have, plus the other size to fit the threaded shaft, it would be wonderous.

It's M8 x 1.25 metric thread. This tool not only pulls the old pulley off, but its' also used to press the new pulley on. I've used it on the M90's and M62's so I assume that it should be the same thread as the M45.
Another option I offer is rental for 35.00. What I do is have you paypal me for the entire amount, then when I get it back I refund the difference.

i'd probably just put a wrench on one of the arms of the puller.
to put the new one on, just heat it up

I don't know why the power steering is a bad choice. You need to get one of these threaded pullers so you can hold the shaft still with a wrench during removal. A three jaw is just not gonna work. Also how do you plan on reinstalling the new pulley? A tip though it to heat up the pulley a bit with a torch to expand it. Do this on removal and install.

my plans exactly, not as easy when executed. course it helps when you have the right tools and not 8 inch wrenches. its a little hard to turn. i'll figure out a way to get er done

Be careful when heating the pulley to remove it, too much heat and you'll destroy the seals or cook the grease out of the bearings in the end of the snout. Heating the hub may work for install, but I've never tried it that way. I would suggest removing the pulley first though so you don't warp it since it's made of aluminum.

I'm going to end up getting a power steering pulley puller/installer if I can find an auto place that actually has one in stock, so I can remove the current one with a bit more ease, and install it easier. For the install, if just pressing it doesnt work, I'll heat the hub up a bit and then try it.

Got it done, using power steering puller. Installation was pretty hard. Had to torch it up twice, first time didn't even go on. Second time I did it for 10-15 minutes until the entire thing was slightly glowing red. What a pain in the ass.
And to add to that, I hit 4 PSI with the 2.7" compared to 3 with the 2.8".

your only getting 3 psi with the 2.8
i get 4.5 with a 2.8 on a hot day
yes, my boost levels suck. i've seen people get a solid 5 psi on the 2.8. i got 3-4. now with the 2.7 i get 3-5. maybe my old engine flows better, i have to hit the track next week

I was seeing 4-4.5 with my 2.7 on my old charger...but with the intake, full exhaust and slightly bumpier cams the whole system flowed better than a stock setup would, so I wasn't complaining too much. Seeing 6.5-7 now with my newer s/c, and loving it!

On my car with OEM pulley Im getting a consistant 6PSI at WOT. Im probably going to upgrade to Alky and 2.6" Pulley w/Cold air intake next year. But hearing how tough it is to change the damm pulley I might just leave it as is. I would like a consistant 10PSI if possible.
Well its not 6 PSI all the time. It's a consistant 5 - 5.5 PSI on warmer days, and on a colder evening easily I see the gauge hit 6psi and a smidge over. So I consider it reliable consistant 5-6 PSI which i'm happy with.
wow thats awesome
ya i see 5-5.5 on a cool night at the high end
but it is fall so hopefully i will see 6 before i put her away
was your blower new or used? cause that could be part of the problem
i see 5 solidly now btw (was testing it around high noon last few times, hot)
my supercharger was/is brand new
