i have 13 pounds of boost and it blew out a plug on the front witch would be the pass side on the oil pan that looks liken a freeze plug.the dealership said i need a new oil pan will a cobalt SS oil pan work?i have a friend that has one.

umm.........ecotecs dont have freeze plugs........and the only way to blow a hole is a piston/rod goin threw the block.


unless you blew the dipstick out.

ill try to get pic.if your on the pass side and look thought your rims there is that black cover that covers the crank pulley if you look around youll see a small cap that looks like a freeze plug.the dealer said i had too much vac or boost and i told him there is people running way more boost than me with no problems like that

the only one I can think of is to the left of the timing chain cover but thats for a balance shaft i think, I am probly wrong... god knows I havent seen an ecotec in months.. but that should not happen regardless

A hole in the oil pump assembley or the cover over the water pump sprocket is all I can think of. Also, maybe one of the ginormous pipe plugs that are screwed in with an allen wrench. BTW, you should never have boost or more than a slight vacuum on the internals of the engine. Regardless, something else is a problem if something blew out of the block. Even if you were boosting the engine internals, more than likely you'd blow out the valve cover gasket or even a head gasket before anything else.

Also, is your breather on the valve cover hooked up properly??? That is just a suggestion but I think something else is your problem.

this happend a 4 days after i put the smaller pulley on and i have the breather hose hooked to the cold air intake.i order a cobalt SS oil pan too.

nothing in that area of the engine should have "BLOWN" out due to boost/vacuum. Saying its vacuum is ridiculous because your engine wont pull anymore vacuum than stock and as far as boost goes........ I hate to say it but it sounds to me that a tech whom is not very knowledgeable has diagnosed an issue that he cant explain and placed the blame on the first thing "aftermarket". Please don't be one of those people who just throws parts at something without even knowing the real issue. Your only going to break the bank. As said before pictures would greatly help this matter. There are many people here that can help you diag problems as many of us have the same setups and lots of experience etc. Not to mention there are several certified techs on this forum to include myself who can better help you solve your problem.

cancel the cobalt ss oil pan...it wont fit.

it will bolt up but your lower engine mount will not work ........and its a nessecary mount

dang it someone told me it will work well im going to take some pic right now

Ya ditto on the oil pan. After I blew my engine, I got a new one from an 05 Cobalt, and the pan was smoothed over and doesn't have the threaded bosses on the bottom for your bobble strut mount.

And as for your pics, all I can say is ??? I've never seen that design setup on an Ecotec. Regardless, a slightly bigger freeze plug with a little sealant around it should take care of that mystery hole. You shouldn't need a new oil pan if the freeze plug will work.

well i just took a look at my friends 03 and it has that same plug sitting inside that hole.what do you guys think did this i just put the smaller pulley on and that was it 3-4 days later this happends i been S/C all year

id get the oil pressure checked , nothing boost related cause that to happen

alot of turbo and s/c guys have ran lots of boost and never had a issue with that plug

also when you get a new plug put in stake the pan as close to the plug as you can to lock in in there , as well as a red locktite or silicone

yeah jus get a new plug or pan use a decent amount of anerobic sealant..

well i found out my intercooler pump isnt working put i dont know if that would have anything to do with that.i found a used pan at the junk year for 15 dollers off a 03 cavalier and it has that plug too.

I just took the oil pan off and the freeze plug slides back and forth in the hole the plug is not smash or anything it just looks like the sealed it and pushed it it there bye hand.my friend that helped said i should go get a little bigger one and pound the plug in just like a freeze plug on a block.So tomarrow im going to go to the shop and see if i can get a bigger one
