96 to 2200 swap problems.
Saturday, October 13, 2007 7:45 PM
I have a 96 sunfire and swapped to a 2001 2200 and also a 2000 4speed automatic transmission.

First round of the swap: I had the 2200 and the 96 3spd transmission. I used a 98 5speed pcm and 99 wiring harness at the time. ran fine untill the torque converter bolts snapped off... ran at 5psi of boost with 310cc low impedence injectors. ...Until the transmission blew.

Second round of the swap: I slapped on a 2000 4speed transmission with low km's onto the 2200. still with the 98 pcm, same injectors and wiring... no matter what fuel pressure it is (30psi 45 psi or 60psi) the engine will bog when warm. I changed the injectors back to stock(low impedence, top feed) only 1 time after the injector swap I was able to make a little boost before getting too lean untill it sounds like a machine gun, detonating. I had D.T.C .with the EGR. and dtc p0480(I don't have a fan right now so I pulled the out relay. I was thinking the E.G.R. D.T.C.'s sent the car into limp mode. also when I touch the throttle just a tad it pushes from the ?AIC and it gives it throttle until a couple seconds after stepping off. I also had problems with overheating while driving.

Third round: I replaced my thermostat, intalled my pcm, waited out the theftlock, started the car, cleared the dtc's, checked the injector clips. then I noticed something wierd... I turned down the fuel pressure then I saw sparks coming from the spark plugs hitting the head then died. I rechecked the plug wires greased the contacts on the spark plugs. Now if I just put a tad of throttle the car chokes and stalls or running exactly like limp mode.. I was thinking maybe I should replace my T.P.S.

Any help?

replaced the throttlebody, map sensor, spark plugs and sparkplug wires, checked all the connections to the engine again (r&r)
