Quick question
Friday, April 25, 2008 10:52 PM
Well I just put my sc on today, along with a 2.7 pulley and did a flash with hpt thats pretty much the gmsc flash. Now everything is fine for the most part and the car runs and pulls great, but every once in a while the car will die. Say if Im sitting at a light for a few mins and go to take off, or if Im sitting and rev it to like 3k and let off it will die; this isnt all the time its only done it a few times.Im running tr6's gapped at .050 and have the 2.2 coil conversion and at first thought I might have problems with that, but idk. What does this sound like it could be?

That could be anything....I would recomend going out and doing some logging.

Get it to stall

Post up that log file and tune on HPT's site, and go from there.

Mine acted like that first time I put it on. Goes away after you drive it a bit.

Tr6 gaped at .030-.027

Idle set at 975-1000.

and lean out your idle table by 5%

Hey Mike, I'm glad you made it home to put in the TR6's . Like I said before, the "Reflash" Tune isn't all that great, especially when going to a smaller s/c pulley....But if you get hold of a Wide-band we'll set you up nicely. If you keep having the stall issue I can set your idle a bit higher than stock (some cars are more picky than others with that). Let me know what's up. I can swing by or you can come here and we'll flash it and see what we can do.

Awesome thanks guys. Yea I made it home to put the tr6's in, couldnt get on it since I95 was backed up the whole back home lol. Someone recommended gapping the tr6's much higher which is what there at, which I thought was a little high with the coil swap, Ill take care of that in a little bit. Sam Ill be getting a wideband in the next few weeks, theres some other things I need to take care of first. Im very happy with the sc though!

Re: Quick question

I gapped the tr6's down to .030 and the car ran worse. I gapped them up to .045 and its better, but the problem seems worse now. It will pretty much do it every time I sit for a minute unless I hold the throttle up.

Hey sam you think we can check it out on hpt and maybe raise the idle up and see if that takes care of it. This seems to be a very common problem for people when they first put on the sc, but Ive heard it last up to like a year and I dont wana have to hold the throttle up every time I come to a stop for that long haha.

bad TPS, or Map sens? scan\code it out.

with a boosted appt, i would stay around .030 though

I thought about the tps so Ill check it, it was used with meth before and looked a little "wet" when I took it off to clean the tb. I still dont have any codes though, it just keeps wanting to die when its sits for a min unless I hold the throttle up. I have the plugs gapped at .045 right now and it seems ok, at .030 I could feel it studdering when I got on it but its better with a bigger gap.

Re: Quick question

did you plug in to it, and see its range from .68-4.99/5 V?

it may very well be bad if it was wet inside.

it's a tuning issue with the gm flash, i had this problem for a year and it went away after i got another base tune from 607

We can find a time to play with HPT this week for sure. I'm out of work by 2 every day and off Friday and Saturday. I would suggest checking all the hoses and such to/from the SC and TB making sure they're all routed correctly. I may have a TPS on my stock 2.4 TB if we need to change it out. Anyway, I know we work different hours, but give me a call any night before 1030pm and any morning after 430am and I should be able to get back to you. Let me know man.

Yea man thats cool Ill give you a call, I work at night so Im free every day from 8am to 11pm lol. Whenever you get a chance soon Id like to check it out, Id like to try the tps sensor cause I have a feeling this one may have been damaged from the meth but I dont have a stock 2.4 tps to try. I also think raising the idle will help alot. It was a bitch being stuck in stop and go traffic today, I would have to hold the throttle up to 1000 and let off-on the brake so it wouldnt stall cause it pretty much does it all the time now.

Boosted remember yours kept dieing from one of the tb sensors? That was a cold ass night swapping them tb's lol.

Re: Quick question

thats what mine did when i sprayed a lot of watter through mine. and the sensor was wet too.

re-tune, look at sensor out put through HPT, and see whats going on.

when i put my new sensor on, i put vaseline in it, to keep the water out, 2 years later it still worked.

This is the same problem ive been having with mine for a while now, i replaced the tps and iac and still talling on me, i dont know what else to replace, the only thing i notice its that it only does it when it gets down to about 600 rpms, it will also go down to 570 rpms sometimes. I have the 2.3 throttle body on mine and the HO manifold and i just cant get the tps on it to read right, i had to make the tps be adjustable so i can get to read about .478 v at idle.

Whats the stock tps voltage on the 2.4 twin cam and whats the map voltage at idle for the stock sensor also?

im telling you ladies its a gm reflash problem, i got retuned by 607 and it is GONE, i had this problem just like everyone else.

Re: Quick question
Monday, April 28, 2008 5:18 AM
It could be from that partly, but remember your car would stall after sitting when you tried to take off or when you would sit there and rev it would die? Then we put my tb in and it was much better, mines doing the same thing. Hopefully we can get it checked out with hpt soon.

Ill try the vaseline on the sensor, I got a tb spacer to tap for the meth though so it wont be in the intake and will be after the tb so that might help as well.

Re: Quick question

Yeah my car would die after sitting there for a few minutes at idle or when i come to a stop and try to take off again it would hesitate and just stall, this is really getting anoying because i thought i did something wrong but after checking everything i can think of and pulling the motor out a few times to see if there is any cracks or leaks any where, i cant see anything wrong with it, i even checked all my wires and all my grounds and she still die.

Only think i can think of is up the idle a bit and hope it stops it.

My problem is definitely being caused by the tps sensor. I got a new one and the stalling stopped, but the car ran like ass... it wouldnt idle high, bog down and not hit boost, and I got a cel for the the tps. Put the old tps and it ran fine except for the stalling. The new tps I got was either bad or the dumb bitch gave me the worng one. Im gona go back and get another since it has a warranty.

Anyone know the part number for the Wells 2.4 tps sensor from autozone. I compared the new one to my bad one and it had different numbers on it but it could be different brands I guess.

HaHa LOL I could look up the number for the Wells map sensor from Autozone but that is not your problem. The problem is you did not disconnect your battery when installing the new one. This is one of the sensors the computer needs to relarn. I know from experience as mine did the same exact thing until I un plugged the battery for 15 minutes while changing it

Re: Quick question

That definitely worked wade, lol. I guess I hadnt even thought of that cause I was frustrated and in a hurry. It is much better now and I thought it went away, but sat for a few minutes and it died again. My idle is set to 750 and that helped as well, but it still does it occasionally after sitting a few minutes. It doesnt die when reving in park/neutral anymore though.

I have another question though. When I first put the sc on, I was seeing just about 7psi at redline and now only seeing almost 6 and the car just doesnt feel as quick, as dumb as that may sound. I checked the bolts and theyre good, and check vacume lines and all but idk. Could it be the belt slipping a little with the 2.7 pulley or just heatsoak? What about the boost actuator???

Re: Quick question

Hey mike, I've seen a drop in boost pressure as well. I just associate it to heat soak due to the warmer weather. I'll leave my dome light on during my next 415am drive and see if the cool air then makes a difference. I think we just need to strap in some alky kits!!

Is your bulb out on your gauge or is it wired wrong? Mines wired to the key on and the light works fine. And Im definitely not going back to the track without alchy
