Soo for some reasons I had I decided to ditch the turbo setup and go back to an m45. Got al the turbo stuff off and the sc on and running, but having a few issues maybe someone can help. Im not using the exact m45 setup, which could be some of the problem. Using an os crank pully, no ac or delete pulley, and the sc idler pulley was replaced with a universal one a bit larger. The idler bracket isnt bolted to the ac bolts, but uses the lower alternator bolt and the other sc brackets to keep it in place. This came off another members car who was using it without any problems.
1. I swapped Mikes stock size pulley for his oversized crank pulley, and Im getting a strange grinding noise right from that area. Thinking it needs to be retorqued, but has anyone had any problems with them rubbing on a timing bolt?
2. Ive also got an electrical problem it seems..my volt gauge is only reading 12v while running, and my battery light was on but then went away after a few hours. All electrical seems ok, but Im thinking maybe the belt could be slipping from the alternator? Belt routing goes over the crankpulley, under the tensioner, then just around the sc idler and sc back to the crank. Im not sure of the exact part number of the belt but I can find out.
Other than that the car runs and builds boost, no codes or anything. I dont have the boost gauge hooked up cause I have to pick up a new line tomorow since I cut mine short and went to my vacuum mani when I was turbo. Right now Im using a 2.7 sc and os crank pulley, interested to see what it does with a 2.5
Also have a meth kit to and oem phenolic spacer to install, plus my 3" should make it alot more fun than the last time around.
What OS crank pulley?
I have the LD9 Pulley OS crank pulley with a 2.5 charger pulley. Love it. You will have to have meth, and a big nozzle as well. I'm running a 500cc nozzle.

Got Mikes os crank pulley, and have a devilsown kit with a few dif nozzles to go on and a tb spacer to tap it in. Also have an oem phenolic spacer Im gona try eventualy but have to drill the hole out for the pcv head port, idk why he made the laser cut gasket with the hole but not the spacer lol.
Basicall my setup before- 2.6 pulley, stock mdld9 crank pulley, 2.75" cai that wrapped around the battery, alchy, and @!#$ty 2.25" header back (and nitrous if I felt the need
)
This time around- 2.5 pulley, oversized mdld9 crank pulley, alchy, oem phenolic spacer, 3" straight into fender cai, pacesetter vband header with 2.5" dp to 3" catback.
Should be a bit more fun! minus the nitrous lol
Soo looking at the pulley its definitely rubbing on something causing a grinding noise, and the belt was slightly rubbing on a lower mount bracket bolt but like said I dont have the exact m45 belt routing. Is it possible the puley is on too far or not enough? My dumbass forgot the washer on the pulley bolt which Ive put on, possible it caused some damage?
I was reading that somene with a racetech pulley was rubbing on a timing bolt but clearanced itself out, has anyone had this problem with Mikes pulley? Im sure theyre not exactly the same but are both 10% overdrive I believe.
No sir..maybe if I gave a damn about the car anymore but I need to take a break from modding for a while. Hell thats why I went supercharged to be slower and more reliable lol.
the pulley will more than likely clearance itself. either drive it fro a little while or stick a flathead screw driver where its rubbing, the softer aluminum will wear down. enjoy the spark show
but..... the missing washer or the alternate belt routing may not be giving the alternator the proper contact it needs to pull you up to the 14.X volts. i would say its more than likely the washer, it may need that little bit of extra space to clearance the bolt. also rubbing on the bolt is a restriction in your system so it could be effecting the total rpms it is spinning/volts youre creating

This setup came off my car and went directly on his car. Everything was working flawlessly on my Z. My thought on the noise is start with putting the washer on the crank pulley. As far as the belt slipping on the alt, the only real option would be is your tensioner is weak and not holding much pressure on everything. Also I gave him my almost brand new dayco belt with it and it spun everything fine and I hit 8 psi everyday with no belt slip.
Hope you get this figured out soon, I almost have my turbo on now should be breaking in the new clutch by the weekend.
I have a noise that started today. I believe the alternator bearing is going. It also has black crap all over the alternator. I think after 122k and being spun like crazy the bearing has had enough.

Guess I shoulda mentioned I put the washer back on and took care of the bolt the belt was rubbing on. Gona drive it a bit tomorow and see what happens. Need to order another res for my exhaust cause I couldn't fit my 30" glasspack and 3" piping with only a 12" res and dynomax super turbo is pretty damn loud lol..don't have a turbo there anymore to muffle the sound
Hooked my boost gauge back up, seeing 6psi with the oversized crank and 2.7 pulley but its also over 90 degrees out and with the humidity Im sure over 100. Gona hook up the meth tomorow
For the crank pulley noise it seems to have gotten better after driving a little. I replaced the crank seal, and noticed that my timing cover had a few like tiny knicks in it around the outer lip. If it leaks oil out of there than Im sure thats the problem and could be rubbing there causing the kind of noise its making. If I have to replace the cover than I may just throw in the HO cams...jk
For the electrical issue Im kinda stumped..The car is only seeing 12v while running, and the battery light comes and goes. The car runs fine though and acc's work, the os crank should give these things more power correct? The battery is only a few weeks old, but I tried to jump it to see if it would help at all and it did go up to about 13v after only a few minutes of charging but then dropped back down. I do seem to have electrical/battery issues after having it unhooked for a few days though, which is why the battery is almost new cause something similar had happened recently, Ill have to test the battery I guess
Little cooler out yesterday(like 80's lol), saw 8psi
Im excited to see what it does with a 2.5 pulley and the cooling mods installed!
are you sending your s/c to steg or a local shop to get the snout machined? 2.5 pulley is way to small to fit on there, i was considering just taking a dremel and a day or so to get mine to the right size.... just curious as to how youre going to go about it

My guess is that the missing washer is letting the pulley wobble the 0.100" clearance that is built into the pulley design to clear the timing cover bolts...........Is this pulley the one Joe texted me about....if so it explains the
THREE grooves in the crank seal area. Since all the LD9 pulleys I fixed, no mater the maker, always had
ONE groove form.
My pulley is a slightly different O.D. and Design to NOT hit the timing cover bolts, unlike the Racetech Over sized pulleys.

The kinks in the timing cover are probably from the pulley movement from the lack of washer on the crank bolt.....
Yes, you should be getting more power....did you ever take your alternator in to see if it is shoot or not?

I guess you fixed your charging issues. lol

Love your pulley btw Mike Couldnt believe how light it is for the size. I swapped out one of your stock sized cranks for it
Your welcome, and if you need any thing let me know.

^ No his OS pulley is like brand new from me and I got his stock sized with the grooves in it. He said the old crank seal was bad so I dont know if it chewed the pulley up or if it had enough clearance from the goove to leak past.
Ok, just bring it to the bash.

Wow sorry Joe didnt realize if the stock size pulley was marred up, didnt realy have time to check it out since I was in a rush to get it done when ya came hah. Not sure if it makes any difference but that is one of Mikes original pullies from his first batch prolly almost 3 years or whenever it was.. I know I was still n/a when I got it lol soo it was quite a while ago. The washer had always been there with the stock size pulley but yes the seal was bad, I could look at it and see. I only had the car running a few minutes before I realized the washer wasnt on there with the new pulley, soo popped it off and put the washer back on.
I shoulda realized it was something simple with the alternator from the start since I was only seeing 12v just running off battery. I hooked everything back up but my battery is drained lol soo gotta go charge it. Hopefully there wont be any more problems, the belt feels nice and tight.
Oh and for anyone wondering, I put Marks phenolic spacer on with the sc and doing soo some of the bracket bolt holes will not line up. Didnt even think of that being the spacer is soo thin but I slotted a few holes in the brackets and its secure. Curious to see if this helps, dont have hpt to read iat's but the hand test on the sc after a pull will work hah.
So you added the port for the PCV system for the spacer? I know someone who used this spacer for a short time on a M45 and was getting gas and oil in the runners.

I had the laser cut gasket with it, soo just traced it and drilled a hole in the spacer where the pcv port is. Soo the m45 pcv vacuum should still be like it is. I also have the sc pcv plate going straight to a vented catch can
M2, with some older style 2.5 pulleys the snout needed machined but there have been plenty running them fine with no modding. Hell Clyde ran a 2.4 pulley, dont remember hearing if he machined the snout though.
I wish I could get my hands on a 2.4 pulley

Nate from smoothflow i think makes the 2.4"...

Yea I was wondering for m45 pullies do we just send him a message? Cause he doesnt have them listed on his site and its been years since I was sc'd lol I forgot where to get everything. Saw that pulleyboys are like $75 for just a pulley no hub, if I remember correctly Nates were only $50-60 or something.
Soo who all makes the quick change pulleys, anywhere besides those two? Im looking to drop to a 2.5
Yeah hit up smoothflow they are about the cheapest you are gonna find and they will bolt to ur hub. That charger is gonna scream with a 2.5, that was my plan if I kept it.
I miss my little M45 with the 2.5 pulley
Almost had an M62 for my 2.4 LE5 but it fell through....
Too poor to not get a smokin deal on one or source cheap Saab setup...
