10:1 and boost

What is the most boost anyone here has run on a 10:1 compression motor?

Depends on your tuning, and what type of gas you run.

Also, depends on if you are running stock pistons or aftermarket pistons.

my w41 has closer to 10.5:1and it's seen 10psi just fine.

course it does have forged pistons....

To me lower compression for boost makes for a lazy motor. I know lower compression is ideal, I just wish I had a 10.1 compression now!

isnt a stock l61 10:1?

evofire yes stock compression is 10:1

karo I will am planning on running forged internals

z yaaa I run 11psi on stock motor now

I guess more directly is 20psi possibly workable on 10:1 compression?

Yes it is.

the very first street owned Turbo Ecotec ran 18 psi on stock motor, and it saw peaks of 23psi. This was with no real tuning just a FMU. Motor took that for a year and never popped. With tuning options we have now I think yes it is more than possible.

My friend is running 14psi now on stock motor with no problems, and we will be going to 20 on it. It is all in the tuning.

Curt(Skunk) was running 10:1 in the "final" version of his car. In unsure of the final PSI, but it was up there.

Epicness is coming. Are you ready?

I cracked a block with 21 PSI out of a 16G... 8.9:1 comp.

So pistons might not be your only concern...

hmmm, i always thot eco 2.2 is 9.6:1
and that my 2.4 eco vvt motor was supposed to be the "high compression" 10.4:1

You bet. When we ran in the 12's with our standard Stage II Turbo Ecotec waaay back in 2004, it was on a stock engine with 12 PSI. Typically speaking, L61 Ecotecs can take 300 HP with little problem. It's above that where the stock powdered-metal rods get edgy.

As for other examples of compression versus boost: we ran a Suzuki dragbike years ago with 11:1 compression and 35 PSI boost. Said bike ripped off low seven-second passes @ 185 MPH in the 1/4.

Our recent Solstice LE5 car went 11.90's on stock 10.6:1 compression and 22 PSI boost.

As Karo astutely mentions above, it's all in the tuning and the fuel octane.

Food for thought, uncles B18c5 engine running 11.5 compression 14 psi of boost putting 480whp...

yeah i dont get why everyone is so edgy about low compression and boost. i could see it on like 30 psi or something really wild but not the numbers we run around here...

Cam timing/ valve duration also plays a huge roll.

O noes!

Speaking of 30psi of boost, if you do some research, you will see a lot of the ecotec race engines were running apx 10.5:1 compression with super high boost.. 40+ psi... but then again, they were running a lot better gas than pump gas.. haha ...

I'm running 13 psi and I've had my h/e pump come unplugged and my iats hit 176* F, no knock... but my tune is weird and the peak advance I normally see at WOT its 17*.

IMO any compression ratio can be used. Youll just yield the same power with lower PSI in theory.
