Well I havent had a tuned car since 2006, but its finally tuned again.

21psi peak, 19 out the back... observed power, no corrections, no silly dynojet power: 331hp/313ftlbs

Cant wait to pick it up tomorrow am.

Unfortunately I couldnt be there to get video

You know you should add yourself to the top whp thread in the racing forum. You'd be 2nd on the LN2 f/i catagory

nice. love that torque number. hp number doesnt sound right for 21 psi boost. i thought it would be more.
either way. sweet!!!!!!!

The peak numbers are good, if the "100% duty cycle" thing is true that's no good. The peak numbers are good but the power curve sucks, 3500+ rpm for it to make 200 ft lbs and 4K rpm to him 200 hp, there is no low end.

That motor's got a billet custom race cam and solid, keyed lifters. It's not built for low end. That's why I was surprised at how low in the rpm range they kept stopping on the dyno, but I guess injectors being too small was part of that too.

^^^^ 06 2.2? if thats true its an ecotec, not an OHV 2.2. completely different engine.

If thats the case either the turbo is too small or the cam needs to be retarded a bit. If its that weak on the lower end because of the cam and its not holding torque better there is an issue.

ahh. didnt see that. most people refer to an ecotec as a 2.2 and the ohv motor as a 2200. i assumed it was an ecotec. definitely impressive numbers for a 2200.

the 2.2 and 2200 are both different OHV engines, the Eco is 2.2 DOHC

Yeah that's why I asked him what was up in his other thread in Photos and Media. To me, this setup is clearly capable of a LOT more, even though he's getting decent numbers now I want to see what goes down once he gets some bigger injectors and further refines the tuning.

He can't hold boost pressure (21psi peak torque, 19psi at peak power), so it's very likely the turbo itself is too small, or at least the turbine A/R is too small. Looking at the graph, I would venture a guess that he has at least a small turbo. Peak torque seems low for a 2.2L @ 21psi and you can see the power curve plateauing just after peak torque.

Race cams and small turbos or small A/R's are generally not a good combo.

Looks like there is some more hp to be had in the upper rpms. Peak power is near the end. Needless to say those are some impressive numbers for a 2.2 OHV.

Considering the rest of the mods done to this car .48 is definitely weaksauce!

So Ive been on vacation since the day after I started this thread and havent had a chance to respond yet..... you guys have been busy.

Im not sure if I can multiquote everyone lol

I dont think 331 observed HP is that weak really. Put this on a dynojet with correction, I bet its close to 400hp.

The turbo is a 50 trim / 0.48.

I can probably just increase fuel pressure, as Im only running 50psi base on 80lb/hr Siemens injectors.

Im def not done with tuning yet, but Rick spent a bunch of time getting a solid trigger and I just ran out of time, and money.

For whats left of this year though, Im going to leave everything as is. Im so happy to be able to drive the car again. It literally puts a huge smile on my face everytime I get in it (which has only been once since I drove it home from the shop two weeks ago).

There will definitely be more to come. For now, Im just trying to work through some other little bugs, clean up a few random projects and just try to enjoy it for a change.

I dont think anyone thinks 331 hp is weak, Im sure its a blast to drive. Just seems weak for 21 psi is what I think everyone is saying. Cant say I blame you for wanting to leave it alone and drive it. I have all the parts for a built motor and a turbo setup for my car but Im so happy that its actually running and driveable right now I am in no hurry to put them in the car lol.

Ya, understood and Im cool with that.

Im still trying to figure out why I am out of injector. 80lb/hr with 50psi base should be able to make more than 330, even on Ricks dyno.

I need to log fuel pressure and see whats happening. I think my strange alternator behavior isnt helping things. Ill figure it out.

Honestly, I was hoping to make power out to 7k.

Also, I could def run more timing, but I wanted to keep things conservative since ultimately Im hoping to do some track days with this thing. Id rather have some margin (for heat, etc) and make the power with boost than with timing. Im not trying to make excuses here, just explaining what was done and why.

I hate that Im always thinking aobut next year when this year isnt even done yet. sigh
