My belt was already cracking when I installed the s/c kit, now it is squeaking.
THIS was a very useful thread. By that, I am going with the Gates K050720 belt (0.2" shorter than factory)...
eBay link.
Any other suggestions without spending $100?
Stock cobalt ss/sc belt. $60 cdn so prolly alot cheaper in the states.
Just carefully cut one rib off.
Take a look at your pulley alignment as well. I replaced my belt and had a bad squeak. Turned out my supercharger pulley wasn't aligned well with my other pulleys.
Who has actually cut a rib off and had long term success? I have reservations about cutting a brand new belt with a razor blade.

Do all these belts being talked about have ribs on both sides? The belt that came in my Cobalt kit has ribs on both sides.
I cut my belt... I have the gates one. Been using it no issues for almost a year now.
i cut a rib of my belt 2 years ago...not one issue....
take a brand new razor blade, start the cut, place tip of blade on ground and pull the belt through. will be a perfect cut. thats how i cut the one on my car, and the spare i bought just because.

Yes, they're all double ribbed for her pleasure.
What's the going price on the gates belt? I assume it's the cheapest.

I think I got mine for $40 from O Reileys autoparts
ive always just cut my belts. done it 2 or 3 times now. i have a brand new lsj belt with a rib cut off laying around somewhere. literally used as mock up and ran on the car a half hour idling. Only came off because i switched to full six rib when i did the LSJ engine swap. PM me if anyones interested.
I have been running a cut belt ever since i tossed the M62 on the cav. Never had an issue.
Interesting..and everyone just used a good razor blade?
