popularity and potential noticed when.....
a guy with a 674HP mustang drag car comes up to you at the end of a track day and tells you he just found his winter/non race day car and modification set. now that shows some respect for the ecotec.
even cooler when he asks you to install a turbo kit on the cavalier he doesnt own yet...especially when its quite obvious from his race car he could do it himself.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

so much for my vega swap idea
good to know all the possibilities
me and my boss kinda are wanting to take a 2.2L Ecotec, turn it the right way, make it RWD, individual TB setup with one turbo for each pair of cylinders and go make GOBS of power. havent decided what body to put it in yet. possibily the roadster or ratrod he wants to build eventually.

and thats coming from someone with the v-tec
I have my engine sold to a guy putting it into an old Willie's...... something....

-i remember when i was lookin around for a cavalier i said haha 2.2 Ecotec wtf you kno so i got my 2.4 Z and its awesome i love chevy. but now you see that those damn Eco's are strong engines. and i want an eco as my next. i was talkin to a guy that is a manager at a chevy dealer in the garage and he said it actually shocked them. they figured it wasnt gonna be popular and strong,he hated cavaliers (hes 24) and now he drives a Hahn's stage 2 eco lol i found that funny. oh and he loves it too.
-so is the cavalier done now that the cobalt is out?
-also did neone else see the saturn Sky? i think thats the sh&^ with a 2.4 ecotec i wish my 2.4 Z was an eco. i want one when i graduate college
speed kills, drive slow, drive a honda

ecotec is a good engine but i would not trade it in a heartbeat for one of my 2.4's. I am old school i guess. But I agree that the ecotec is very strong and can make very nice power.

Love the Eco but I love my Iron Blocks too.
Well around Montreal we got some Wanna Be Honda that always claim that our Eco even the new Cobalt SS is a POS... They get beaten to death... They all that the new 2.0L ecotec supercharge engine is nothing compared to there Vtec @!#$... But obviously they dont know the power of it...

Some guy I work with came up to me and goes "man! i saw a sunfire at the track with an ecotec like yours but it was running 900hp and na!!! thing was smoking everybody running 11's"
When you start getting urban legends and made up numbers from people who drive hondas (he has a 91 civ hatch) then you KNOW it's a popular engine hahahah
Oh come on guys... this is to be expected. Global engine = lots of parts out there for it. Hell, even Quad 4's made it into the hot rod world
http://www.quad4rods.com/. I'm not surprised at all...
Hell, even J-cars were worldwide in the 80's... but we didn't have the widespread Internet back then to talk about it to one another
Don't get me wrong... I think it's great.. but really, doesn't come as a shock at all!!

I could care less which engine I had between the 2.4 LD9 and 2.2 Ecotec. But I'll tell you what......
....I'm gonna want to swap to an Ecotec when the 2.4 version hits the market!

Holy sh!t, John, I just checked out that site! That's friggin AWESOME!

hooray for ecotec...
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
I heart my eco but Ive got a problem. what exactly is it that makes the eco so great I mean Ive read the story about gm building there monster and I understand it's a worldwide engine. but what about is so great and how come GM what make a turbo for the eco's or mabye a special 1 year only turbo colbalt or someting. oh yeah and nitro I'm right with you on the 2.4 eco.

Kick azz is my boost hero!!! "
I really dont know why everyone thinks this 2.4 ecotec is the second coming its certainly alot less suitable for boost, pretty much the only real mods you can do with it is the usual NA stuff or putting nitrous into it, it will hold up to boost prob just a tad better than the LD9 but the specs point to similar probs as the LD9 when boosted.
The reason I say that its not suitable for boosting is that the compression ratio is 10:6 to begin with which means your EGTs are already going to be up there to go along with the fact it has a higher grade ignition system with the coil on plug which is a mighty strong spark and stronger spark is more likely to cause detonation. Not to mention all it is, is a factory bored and overstroked L61 2.2 the pistion bore is 2mm more and the stroke is 4mm longer with basically the same cylinder head. Also no mention of the connecting rods being forged like the 2.0 SC engine, they are most likely the cheaper grade powdered metal, also the only tranny with the engine is listed as an auto, not exactly a performance combination

there is a 5 speed manual available soon for it. maybe a year after it first came out. Probably same transmission has the Eco 2.0L S/C. thats what I read but I cant remember where i saw that.
