hey guys i did a search and couldnt find what i was looking for..anyway here is the question. when i drive my car and it gets warm buy the way it is a 97 z24 5speed the speedo jumps down then back up. i found by doing the search that it might be the vss (vehical speed sensor) anyone have a part number or know where this is located..i also saw that it might be a sesor on the tranny does anyone have anymore in put on that sensor. thanks josh please help quick this is driving me crazy...
come guys you got anything?
only two sensors on the tranny. The VSS and the reverse light switch...which is a switch and not a sensor.
The VSS is located over the differential. If you go under the car where the passenger's side axle meets the tranny, and reach up on top, you will get the oil fill/dipstick for the transmission fluid and the VSS. Unplug the VSS, remove the 10mm bolt, and pull it out. Check to see if it is covered in metal shavings, etc. If so you could have a differential going out on you for one thing...or just abnormal wear on the tranny.
I took mine out and it had metal shavings on it...when I looked at the gears in the differential, they had little pits chewed out of them. I replaced it with a geo storm diffy and no problems since...with the differential anyway.

mine was jumping a few months ago, i took the speed sensor out and it had metal shaveings on it that was messing up the reading. I told the people on here about it and they said to start saving for a tranny. After i cleaned it the speedo was fine, 2 months later the diff in the tranny blew. I took the sensor out again and it was covered with lots of metal
i hope it is not you tranny going that is making your speedo jump but it prob is, So iam going to tell you what they told me months ago -- Start saving for a tranny
