Besides adding a phantom or a quiffe what else can be done to a getrag? Is there a way to change out gearing like the 3 spds? I know you could "cryo" the internals i guess. Just thought i would ask since I'm board.
Thanks Jeff
Well my first question is why would you want incredibley long gearing?

I wouldnt see why not just take it to a reputible tranny builder and see what he can do. as for gearing i dont know what you could do to change it around.

NJHK---> I was mainly interested in what could be done is all because When i finish my motor i planned on moving to the trans as my next build up. and then when all my drivetrain is done and i am happy with it i will do the "show" aspect of the car.
Z----> I haven't started to look for a trans place in my area good idea none the less, i just wanted to see if anybody has done a build up yet and what they did.
Anybody else have any idea?

cuz when you add a decent amount of power you end up in 5th gear during the 1/4.. not good. also when at the 300+ range, you should be able to hit 60 well before 3rd.. think about it this way. some of the fastest 0-60 cars do it in 1st gear..
our gearing is GREAT for stock or near stock power but quickly becomes a weak point as power increases.
Sven you totally quarterloafed your computer..
The weak point is the shift forks, which take out the synchros once they bend. Since the shift forks are aluminum, with nylon (I think) caps on them, they are tricky to cryo. I believe some F-body tranny's have weak forks as well, and the aftermarket stepped in and made stronger ones. I don't think we'll be so lucky. I've yet to hear of anyone take out the stock diff in a getrag.

Yea, I broke a shift fork in my Getrag, damn Aluminum w/ nylon caps is right....... I wonder if I could blue print it, and have a machine shop make one...... hmmmmm......
I think Phil broke his stock Getrag diff..... but he was being an idiot when he did it..... lol
