Is it possible to swap the automatic 3-speed in a 2200 with the automatic 4-speed trans without major issues or massive amount of dollars being spent? has anyone here done it? i've heard it makes quite a performance difference.

the 3speed is non-electronicly controled, where the 4 speed is. You would need to swap the engine bay harness, and ECM from a 4 speed 2200.....
I thought by 2000, they got rid of the 3spd..... guess not.

It was an option in the 2000 version from what i know. a friend of mine took a cruise with me in my cavy.. and said it was slower than his partially because he had the 4 speed in his 2000 2.2 ..
I guess that wouldn't be worth doing then. bummer.
