what would be the ultimate setup for the LD9, case/diff/gears/final drive etc... this is for speed not fuel economy... although i'd probly throw in the 5th gear from the 2.2 for some fuel saving while driving highway.

Ultimate set up for what? Drag racing?
IMHO the best swap would be 3rd and 4th from a 2.2L and a the FDR from a Geo Storm DOHC (4.11:1). This will increase your revs in each gear while crusing including 5th gear which will result in less fuel economy.
A Quaife LSD for the tranny would be a great but expensive upgrade if you can find one.
5th is the same for the 2.2L and 2.4L tranny's.

I just had my whole tranny rebuilt and went with the 3rd and 4th gear swap. Left in the orig final drive. It makes a difference and the revs are very noticable. Also if you could, get the spider gears and anything else heat treated to make em a whole lot stronger. I did and it only cost an extra 50 bucks. lol
