This weekend I will be celebrating America by changing my transmission fluid. I think I'm prepared, but I just have a few questions.
Firstly, it's a three-speed auto, and my Chilton's manual only shows the procedure for the four-speed: is it essentially the same? And in that vein, are filters and gaskets the same between three and four speeds?
Secondly, I know I need fluid, filter, gasket, time... anything else I will need or any tips/tricks/suggestions for me?
Thanks in advance everyone.
I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.
I know you guys will hate me but come on, they're easy enough questions... bump...

Its pretty stright forward with doing a transmission fluid change. Make sure you get the 3 speed auto filter kit.
youre gonna want Dexron IIE or III tranny fluid. Make sure you get a good quality silicon for youre tranny gasket, Then you should be set to do the fluid change job.
Good Luck.
Problem with draining only the pan is that there's still fluid in the torque converter. Taking it to a place where they can flush it would be better, may be a little costly, but you get it all out. Also, if you say have them flush it, then you can change the filter and fluid again yourself, this insures all of the fluid is new and clean.
You wanna get all the fluid out.....just pull a drain plug from front of transmission (near cooler lines).... Crank engine for just a few seconds...All your fluid will be puimped out on floor..

This really doesn't sound like the best idea to me..
If you really want it done right, take it to a shop and have then flush it,
But, if you want to save money, just get underneath the car, drop the tranni pan, replace the filter, clean everything up, replace gasket, and bolt it back in. When you bolt it back up, do NOT over tighten the bolts, snug them until the gasket barely pinches out. You WILL regret it if you over-tighten them, tranni fluid will leak all over.
