I'm getting a very nasty noise on deceleration. I can hear it a little bit on acceleration, but more on deceleration with the clutch engaged and my foot off the gas. I just got done putting in a phantom grip and spec II clutch with Fidanza Flywheel. This also may be attributed to my confusion on manual trans fluid.
My roommate thinks it may be my input shaft bearing, which makes sense with the garbling noise it makes. I really don't want it to be that because I don't want to drop the tranny again.
A friend says it could be the clutch, but I seriously doubt it. I followed torque specs to a "T."
What are your thoughts?
Thanks for your help.
^^^^ Seriously......
Not knowing what the noise actually sounds like, my best guess would be loose lug nuts if it's on decell

How did the diff's spider gear teeth look when you put in that PG?
I am currently expericing the same problem.. A nasty Garbling gear smashing noise on deceleration.. I think it could be inputshaft or diff.
I have the same noise and i put in a TG lsd insert, Spec stg 3 clutch, and spec flywheel. I tried asking about it and got no response. I think it might be the spider gears. I am doing a motor swap soon and ill take some pics of the diff when the trans is out. I have had the Insert in for about 5,000 mi so we will see how everything looks.
I am having this same issue. Happend when I swapped to a junk yard tranny. Some one please help? It is a nasty metal on metal chatter/grinding?

I'm willing to bet that it's the "Getrag Growl" as it looks that everyone that is complaining about it has 2000+ J's...
It's normal and as far as I know it's nothing to worry about. From what I've read your best bet is to change out your tranny fluid with some B&M Trick Shift or other high quality transmission fluid and it will make it much much better...
I hear this noise too, and I plan on changing my fluid once it gets warmer outside...
Really? I hope you are right. This tranny has sat in a junk yard empty for a while. I put in mobil1 automatic tranny fluid. If I keep changing it will it go back to being quiet like my original one was? (Original died due to bent/broken fork.)

The Getrag noise is also audible when accelerating when youre between like 1200 and 2000 rpm (at least on my Cav it is)
Good luck getting it fixed, Im on the way to having trans work done so ill be following this one.
My concern is because it is really loud. It basically sounds as if there is no fluid in the tranny. If it wasn't for the fact that I did it myself I would be way more concerned. Next week I will get a hold of some expensive tranny fluid and see if that helps.
What does everyone suggest? I never even heard of The B&M Trick Shift fluid. How good is that stuff. I know B&M makes one hell of a short shifter.
