Just tonight my clutch felt lighter and it was engaging almost right when I took my foot off the pedal. It was not like this before. Last year my slave and master cylinders went out on my clutch, and was replaced by GM. At 85k miles, I no longer have a warranty. Is there a way to bleed the system? To insure there is no air?

I don't know much about transmissions yet, but when I had that problem, it was my clutch. It went soft, didn't kick in until it was all the way out. Two days later, the clutch wouldn't engange at all because all the fluid had been pushed out so it wouldn't do into gear. Filling up the hydraulics with more fluid was a temporary fix, and at least got me to the shop. I had to get a new clutch.
Anyway, it sounds like the same problem I had. A dead clutch. When mine died, I got a stage 1 instead cause the stage 1 was the same price as what teh dealer wanted for a new OEM part.
Yes you can bleed the clutch. There is a bleeder valve in the front of the tranny under the intake ( follow the black hose coming out of the clutch fluid container). Bleed it just like you would brakes.

is it normal the the clutch system to form air in the lines?

No, it indicates a bigger problem. That is unless the air was in there all along.
"The Blue Bullet"
just loosen the bleeder and wait, keep resevoir full of fluid but when the bleeder open never hit the pedal. after it bleeds awhile tighten it up and pump clutch to see how tight it is.

do you ever notice that the ones who talk the loudest have the least to talk about?
So it does not require you the pump the pedal?

i think i am having a similar problem,....
Well to be honest I've had this happen to both of my manual tansmission cavaliers and what ended up fixing it was just adding fluid. As I added fluid even though the reservoir looked like it said normal it kept adding and never went above the line. Once it started to slowly increase in level I stopped adding fluid. Got back in the car and it drove perfectly fine.
Here are the clutch bleeding instructions from the 04 Factory Service Manual:
Notice: Do not reuse the fluid that has been bled from a system in order to fill the clutch master cylinder reservoir for the following reasons:
1. The fluid may be aerated.
2. The fluid may be contaminated.
3. The fluid may contain too much moisture.
IMPORTANT: Maintain the fluid level in the clutch reservoir to the top step with GM P/N 12345347 or equivalent.
1. Clean dirt and grease from the cap in order to ensure that no foreign substances enter the system.
2. Attach a hose to the bleeder screw on the clutch actuator assembly. Submerge the other end of the hose in a container of Hydraulic Clutch Fluid GM P/N 12345347 or equivalent.
3. Depress the clutch pedal slowly and hold.
4. Loosen the bleeder screw to purge air. Then tighten the bleeder screw to 18 lb-in.
5. Repeat steps 3 through 5 until air is purged.
6. Fill reservoir to the top step with GM P/N 12345347 or equivalent.
7. Repeat the bleeding procedure if necessary.

2 grand for a clutch master cly, pressure plate, and TOB??? From where? You can get al those parts for under $1000.00, and that is a new clutch disk as well.

thats what a GM dealership quoted me @

Was that installed as well? I paid less than a grand for a aftermarket flywheel, clutch (which included clutch disk, pressure plate and TOB), and a LSD insert. I installed it with my friend so no charge.

i noticed my fluid was bone dry. i went to go add some break fulid. can anyone tell me what the issue is.
It is a leak. You ned to find the leak. Also you need to bleed your clutch now.
