tranny swap

I got a 99' Base model Cavalier 2.2L OHV. It came with the 3 spd automatic. I was wondering how much it would prolly cost to swap out my 3 spd for say a 4 spd automatic or even a 5 spd manual...
Modifications i currently have done are a cold air intake and cat back exaust. If anyone has comments on this i would greatly appreciate any advice at all on cost or in this subject in general. Thanks!

The three speed is hydraulic. The four speed is electrical. You need all the electronics to drive the four speed. I forget if this is also in the PCM. I am pretty sure it is. As far as what it'd cost. Just go gut a junker. I'd say 300 in parts. If you want a new tranny....then it might get more expensive

ok...well today, when i shifted into park from drive it made a louder pop than usual. It does the same thing when i shift into reverse from drive. I was just wondering cause i think it may be going out. Most of my friends have manual trannies in theirs and i have noticed that all the newer production cavaliers and gm cars have 4 speed autos in em. I would rather not go the route of converting my entire car over to manual just because of the time it takes and costs even when you go junk yard hunting. I was checking with a local dealer and transmission shop on what their take was, but i just wanted to see if anyone on here has converted or upgraded their transmission in their 97-99 cavalier to a better one. Thanks for the advice. If anyone has any more it would be appreciated.
