Ok i just picked mself up a B&M short throw shifter and i was wondering if someone could give me the run down on it thx
Hopefully UPS gets here round 10 so i have time to install before work in the morning......Im going by wildweasel's directions myself. Ill post up how it goes.
Just be careful when you disconnect the cables.....stupid plastic sh*t
I broke mine, and chevy only sells the whole assembly, I ended up drilling through, and putting a bolt through.
lol ouch. Be careful is right. I got mine off fine.....look at the clips for the cables, see how the work, and use 2 small fatheads to pry it up just be careful. Wild weasle was dead on. followed it to a t and it went smoothly. I had to cut my shifter knob off, im using the B&M one.
Got it in went in fine took 45 min no probs woot
took me 2hours. 20 min out..... 1 1/2 hours waiting for ups guy....10 minutes back in. and boy do i love it.
Bringing this thread back from the dead...anyone have a link or at least some sort of directions for installing a short shifter on a 95-99 Isuzu? I seem to remember reading somewhere that this install is a bit more complicated, and I can't find anything about installing it - sorry if it's right under my nose, I've looked for it but can't seem to find anything.
Got the shifter here but there's no instructions and I'd love to put it in...but also would love to still have a driveable car - and there's a sh!tload of parts. Not at all like the short shifter I installed in my '01 Eclipse, that was seriously a 15 minute job, and about 12 of that was removing and putting the center console back in.
ebay shifter im guessing? there's seriously nothing to it. once you get the console off, you'll see how it goes together. i dont see how "that this install is a bit more complicated", if you got the shifter that came with the big blue square of billet aluminum, you dont use that square... or at least, i couldn't use it, it caused the bottom of the shifter to not be able to move far enough. i took pictures while doing it, if you need i can post them up, but it may take a while, i just got done moving and everythings still packed up including the camera. but really, take the console off, look at the shifter, and you'll see how it works. it really couldn't be simpler.
the small blue rounds replace the rubber grommets that hold the shifter in place.
it gives you all new hardware to make sure you have what you need, in fact i had extra.
there's one long piece, looks like a bolt, is aboot 4 inches long, has no threads, a head on it thatsabout 3/4 inch diameter, has no use.
thats about all i can remeber right now... just make sure the set screw that holds the pivot ball to the shaft is very tight, maybe even drop a little bit of glue or something in there to keep it from backing out. mine did, and it makes the shifting all kinds of sloppy.

Ok, I hadn't gone out tonight to try and do it, but reading what you say, I'll hope for the best. It doesn't sound bad - I didn't see how it'd be all that complicated but then again I had seen that statement before. Yes, it's one of the eBay ones, with the billet aluminum plate and the 4 rounds...also another billet aluminum piece that I can't really describe. Also that bolt-like thing. Odd that they'd give you all sorts of parts you wouldn't really need...
because there were 2 trans setups from 95-99.
One with the centering assembly in the trans, the other in the shifter IIRC
Hmm...lol so any guess as to which mine would be - a '98 GT with the Isuzu 5 speed? Or were they used interchangeably (they being the two setups)?
I have the instructions but need to scan them... that'll be a tomorrow thing though
The only thing i didn't like was grinding through the 1/4" steel so i could get the clearance for the shifter to move through all the gears.
but other than that, it's more or less assembly.

I just installed a short shifter in my car.. what a b*tch.. I should have started earlier in the morning... it kinda sucked driving to work with no first gear....
the clearancing on the bracket is a pain in the rear
1994 Ford Mustang Cobra
1997 Sunfire GT
I cut the hole as large as i could so that i wouldn't have anything hitting the edge.
Also, watch out. The spring on mine slipped and blocked fifth for a while. I checked and just sawed off the extra spring and now it works beautifully.
I have also been having a recent problem as well. Whenever i put it in first and let go of the shifter ball, it springs back to nutral position but is still engauged in first. It feels like it has too much play.
But other than that, great product!

Finnished mine up on the week end ... started @ 10 finnished @ 1 ... and ya the clearence is a bitch
especially when u dont have a dye grinder to use and u have to use a side grinder with a 5 inch blade
and the fact the rivets would not stop spinning reguardless of what speed but wedging a flat head in between
the plastic upper plate and the lower bracket seemed to work liek a charm ...
but none the less its a hell of alot better then the stk shifter .....
Yes it was the Ebay one ....since the 95-99 b&m's are obsolete
have used the b&m on a friends fire and its not much difference in feel
well here it is
i still have the console off so if anyoen needs more pics ... let me kno
