Just the last week, I got into my car to go, and the first time I went to second it was harder than hell to get into. A few days later I had 4th do the same thing to me. Now after driving it today, 4th is fine, and 2nd has occasionally felt fine, but mostly still hard to go into. I greased the ball of the bottom of my cosmo short throw, and nothing. Any ideas? 04 cav 5 spd. i/h/e/ s/c.
aw, cmon guys, I really need some help!! I tinkered with it today, and seems that 2nd and 4th are easier to get into if I slightly push to the right while shifting, instead of going straight down.
Mine is acting up too. I either have to push down on shifter to get into 1st or go from2nd into 1st in one smooth motion
Shift cable (or cables) might be a bit out of adjustment. Hows reverse?
I'm having shifting troubles as well, but they're getting steadily worse.

Reverse was the first to give me problems. I can't put the shifter into reverse for the first 40 minutes of driving or so. Have to do it with the car off.
Then first became more difficult. It becomes easier after about 20 minutes of driving.
Then third. It becomes easier after about 10 minutes of driving.
This deterioration has been occurring over weeks. Second, fourth and fifth have been okay, but this morning 2nd started giving me problems.
I was thinking my synchros are going, and when i mentioned the symptoms to some guys at the auto parts store, they said the same thing. Suggested I try adding some Lucas oil. I did; no effect at all.
Now searching on here, trying to find instructions on how to change out my trans - picked up a used one with 31k miles on it. Mine has around 155k.
Can someone point me to instructions? What else needs to be changed while I'm in there - I'm used to working on another car and so know maybe the shifter fork, rear main seal, TO bearing...
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Duh, thanks. I knew that from the moment I started driving the car back in '95, but there wasn't much I could do about it. If it was my main car I might be researching whether it's possible to switch to the Getrag, but it's not, so I don't really care. Just want to replace the trans.
