isuzu question
Sunday, November 29, 2009 7:51 PM
I am doing a 3100 swap on a 98 2200 cavi. I am using the factory isuzu trans. I have a spec stage 3 clutch and stock flywheel. I am planing to turbo the 3100 next summer(thus the stage 3). My question is what can i do to beef up this trans. I know there not poular, but somebody knows something on here. I have ready bits and peices about crappy syncros and storm parts but i cant find any solid fact. Can someone point me in the right direction. I plan to get a teamgreen lsd in the near future but what else can i do to help this thing not exolode? Thanks in advance.

Quiklilcav wrote:You can always build yourself a stronger Isuzu, and it will hold up as good or better as the Getrag. If you are going to rebuild one anyway, get yourself a the guts from an early 90's non-DOC Geo Storm or Isuzu Stylus and use the differential from it, plus a rebuild kit for it (with one piece brass synchros), to build your transmission. You can probably find yourself a tranny out of one of them pretty cheap. I've seen them for as low as $100.

This is what I was told when I was asking about the isuzu for a 3400 swap. Not sure if the lsd insert would work if you used the dif from one of those, I would say ask the guy who sells the lsd's (forget his name). I'm sure there are other options too, but I don't know much about transmissions.

Thanks. Did you go through with the build? any pics? So I need a non dohc storm or impulse diff and syncros?

Actually, I haven't really gotten much done with my swap so I haven't even bothered to pick up a transmission yet.

I have also heard from some members that the isuzu is not really as bad as most people say it is, and it can handle quite a bit of power. If you do want to build it though (I know I probably will, why not), what quiklilcav told me is probably a good option (although it may not work if you plan on buying that LSD). I would wait to see what some other people suggest before buying anything though.

I agree I have very little info on this. I even posted the same type question on isuzone.org and pretty much nothing so far. I feel so alone...... lol Thankx for the help though.
