Clutch pushes in too easily - Transmission Forum

started the car today and even before i turned the key i noticed the clutch went down a lot easier than usual
drove to school runs/shifts perfect like usual, but its like before it had a tight spring to it, now it come back up fine but its not a spring like action, and it pushes down without much effort, but everything is working normal. i noticed just now when i got home it was a little stiffer, prob because my leg was getting tired by the time i got to school and back.. maybe i have a super strong leg, but i dont think so it was something more than that.
fluid a little low last week or so, but after at least 1500 of km and counting, no issues. there is zero leaks, no smoke under the hood, i dunno where the fluid went. but it wasnt alot.
i know i should search and i have a little, but im an idiot when it comes to anything standard transmission, as this is my 2nd car with stick, as the first one i sold not long after i got it.. ive driven nothing but automatics.
any ideas, its a sun fire 2.4 GT 5 speed.. dont know history of replacements.. its just about to roll over to 200,000km its at 199,5xx something now.. been going strong since 193,000km since i got its not even 2 months ago
Sometimes the internal seals get blown out and fluid leaks around the master or slave piston.
i will investigate this weekend..
doesn't seem to be losing fluid, the first time i actually checked it for owning the car it was a little low, that was weeks ago
clutch pedal feel was fine until today, although it doesn't have a tight spring action, it still moves from pushed in, back to the top no problem, and the clutch doesn't slip, under light throttle or heavy throttle. i took it out on the 401 tonight, and up no problems in any gear, but its very noticable when you push the clutch in, very effortless.
one thing i do notice is i kind of have to lift my leg vs having the clutch assist by pushing back which is very annoying
i was driving the car the night before and all day no problems what so ever
is it possible there is air traped in the system from when it was low, weird how its all of a sudden, overnight type thing.
where would i go to get this looked at, a transmission shop?
where do i start to diagnose this problem? >>ill start with checking for leaks in the usual spots, but again i am stupid when it comes to manual trans lol
although unrelated, the car has no check engine lights etc and runs mint
i will do some general searching on google and become more of an expert on the subject
If the leak is past the seals, you won't lose any fluid. To check, unhook the line that goes from the master to slave, there is a quick disconnect. After you have unplugged it, if your pedal goes down when you push it, your slave is bad. If it does not go down, then there is a high likely-hood that the slave is done.

so this is a lose lose situation?

Ooops! I re-edited it to be correct. Sorry!
Yes, if one is not bad, then the other is.
So i was stuck in traffic the other night for like 2 hours straight maybe longer, and was stuck riding first gear 95% of the time. (on 401)
there was a death or something and an emergency road closure, and traffic was rerouted blah blah long story..
half way into the traffic nightmare, the clutch started sticking halfway up, i used my foot to move it up a few times and it went away, but still low pedal.
stoped in the city i was headed to, for a few hours, then it was another few hour drive back home, but no traffic. once i had the car in 5th gear i never touched the clutch the whole way home. when i hit the off ramp to get off the highway, i clutched in and put it into 3rd, and it felt a little tighter than usual, so i clutched in again when i had to stop and it was back!
Lond story short, my clutch pedal is perfect again, and i dont know why..
master cylinder stuck?
Air in system from being low, no leaks.?
no clue but so far so good, if it aint broke dont fix it lol
if it acts up again, i will be taking it in first thing.
I was suppose to have it in the shop the next day (Tuesday) but Monday night it decides to correct itself??
any ideas?????????
so the pedal is back to the floor randomly, its losing fluid not sure where. havent really checked for a leak other than the line from the res, taking it in for the slave soon, but im going to be replacing the master and everything first before i take it in to save a little money
