15x6 wheels
Friday, May 26, 2006 10:07 PM
Okay, so I was hoping to be able to wait to buy tires until after I bought some new wheels. However, my tires were getting ridiculously bald and i had to buy new ones. After extensive searching on the internet, I cannot find any wheels which will fit my new 195/65/15 tires. Does anyone know of any descent looking wheels that will fit this size? Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Any 15" wheel from 6" up to even an 8" wide wheel should work just fine for a Cavalier. Hell, there's an AE86 Corolla in this month's Modified Magazine that has 195mm 15's on 10" wide rims, so if he can make those fit, you got no problems.

Oh...okay. I was under the impression that the first number in the tire size (in this case 195) played a factor in the width of the rim you can use. But i'm new to the ways of wheels and tires. Thanks for your help.

It doesn't directly mean how wide a rim you need, but it's something to consider. The wider the rim, the more stretched out a tire will be. In this case, a 195mm tire was used on a large rim - which by the way I was off - he had the 195mm on a 9" rim and 205mm on the 10" rims - sorry - but the tire is more stretched out than normal, they almost look low profile. On the other hand, an excessively wide tire, like a 235mm or 245mm width, which would be more appropriate for a 9" or 10" wide wheel, won't fit a 6" wide wheel, and if you do manage to get them mounted, good luck getting them back off, and they'll look goofy as hell plus the contact patch will be seriously wrong.

Alright. I'm only looking at about a 6.5 or 7 inch wide wheel, so I should be alright. Thanks again.
