Scion TC rims.. fitment?
Sunday, October 29, 2006 9:52 AM
I've searched and can't find a straight answer.. so here it goes.

Scion TC rims. The pretty 6 split-spoke dark silver alloys. Sized in 17x8. Will an 8 inch wide rim on a 3rd Gen Cav lowered with Eibach sportlines work without rubbing? Will it even mount up? I know for a fact they share the same bolt pattern as the J-bods, but I'm somewhat concerned about an 8 inch rim fitment. Please help, thanks guys.

(BTW, the concern stems from others apparently saying 7.5 inch wide rims are the widest you can go without problems...)

Well...my rims are 16x8 and I've got a thirg gen lowered on pro-kits. Also, I know my wheels fit well on the Scion...so all in all I think you're safe.

Thanks guys, anybody else can offer me 100% certainty they'd fit? I don't feel like wasting my time or money if they don't..

You'll have to have them bored out. BTW the stockers are a good bit heavy, for the same price you could pick up some cheapy adr's on ebay.

The only reason I'm asking is because I can get Scion TC rims for a very fair price. Otherwise I wouldnt bother dicking around with a 'supposed to fit' rim setup.

So, perhaps if I had very slim spacers machined (like a quarter inch or smaller) I could avoid having to bore out the centre? What sort of tire sizing would be best? I don't need steam-roller rubber.. I wouldn't have the power to use it. All I've got done underhood is a cone filter and a Magnaflow exhuast out back.

Thanks for the help guys.

No no. You have to bore out the wheels to fit over your axles. The diameter of the axles is 57.1mm. If the wheel bore is 54.1mm, they'll need to be bored out 3mm.

Yes you'd need them bored out. Or get a hub ring made for a 57.1mm hub centerbore to a 54.1 wheel centerbore.

www.discounttiredirect.com sells hub rings.

And the TC stock wheels are 7". I just picked up a set for my Corolla.

Hubcentric rings will not help out in this situation. They adapt from a smaller hub size in the wheel to a larger hub size on the mounting area. .

They do them both ways, I believe. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Hubcentric rings fill the gap between the hub and the larger centerbore of the wheel. Not vice-versa.

A spacer could be used to bring the wheel out far enough to where the smaller wheel centerbore would not have to fit over the hub.

A wheel adaptor could be used like the spacer, but it might allow you to be hubcentric.
