ok, i wanna order some carbon material to try and practice with, but when i look for it, theres always 100 different kinds(ie. pattern, width, etc). for you guys that have worked with and ordered carbon fiber, any particular width to look for, or pattern for that matter? what should i look for in the material? and what kind of epoxy do you guys prefer. any help is appreciated. thanks

4 x4 twill is what is used in many hoods. Some use the 2x2 twill weave in the interior, but with either it would look good. I get all my stuff from USCoposites.com(sp)

what exactly should i look for when it comes to the Tow Size, and the thickness. also it says its 5.7oz. what is the difference between that and others?

5.7oz is how much each square yard weighs (maybe its not yards..it may be feet...whatever). the lower the oz, the less it weighs. for the purposes of doing stuff for your car you arent going to need something that weighs any more than that. if you are doing structural work then you might want a heavier duty material. the ligher stuff will wrap better.
i prefer the 3x3 twill for look. but the plain weave is much easier to use and lines up better if you have two or more parts that will be touching. the twill will give you a \ \ \ \ \ look where the plain weave will give you a l l l l l if you can imagine that.
the two important things to look at is the 3x3 part and the type of weave. most kinds of carbon ive come across are 5.7oz or close to that. what youve posted above will work for interior pieces, so feel free to get that. or better yet, lots of places offer samples of different materials, so look around that site and see if they do too.

well not all places offer samples. but uscomposites is a great place to get your stuff from. this is what ive been told from the beginning...places like www.carb.com have better quality carbon, but uscomposites has the best resin.
i use the KLEER KOTE epoxy. works fine. but ive also heard that www.westsystem.com #205 and #207 work the best for these custom applications.

With the Kleer Kote make sure to mix really well and helps if you heat it up also to get air bubbles out, but then it will setup really fast....

well i ordered the Kleer Kote and the cf mat today. I got the Kleer Kote from USComposites.com, and the CF mat from Carb.com

This is the exzact info i was wondering about! wOOt wOOt ty Tabasco for all the great info and stuff. Specially the expoxy/clear info I'd been wondering that for the longest time LOL wOOt. now i can work on some custom stuff when i get around to it.
