steering wheel update.
Wednesday, April 13, 2005 12:31 PM
So i got the front cover of the wheel off and the airbag out. Im waiting on my friend to come by with the wheel puller but i noticed something. the wheel adapter i got fits the new steering wheel fine but the part that bolts to the car is worrying me. This adapter is suppose to work for my car and i see it has he big hole in the middle and 3 smaller ones around that. once i get the wheel off will i have those three holes exposed or am i missing something?

no one will ever see the holes trust me.

if i rememeber correct, those 3 holes are part of the plate on the stock wheel.

so if thats the part i think it is, that is connected to the wheel you are taking off.

I'm not worried about seeing the holes I'm worried about the wheel not staying on. Eazy can the part your thinking about be removed? Also did you remove the steering wheel lock when you put your new one on?

wheels are almost inmpossible to remove. it will stay on. 1 you need a puller just to remove it 2 it has a very big bolt that holds it on

ok i had some time to fool with it today
This is what i have

The hub goes on way to far

The nut needs to go down much further

I think i see the piece i need to fill in the gap on the back of the wheels box but they dont make it for my car and wont help me cause they say its illegal. Basicly the piece will make it so the hub sit far enough up to be caught by the nut. any one know where i can get this?

The yellow/black thing with the white and blue label. That's the airbag coil and with an aftermarket wheel, is completely unnecessary.

I'm at work right now so I can't try it yet but won't that just make an even bigger gap I have to fill?

I'm looking to sell my airbags is this a important piece or can I just smash it off too? Also can I just cut that damn yellow wire. This is proving to be a real pain in the ass mod.

you can smash it off that isn't something you need you need the three pieces both airbags and 1 controller under the passenger seat. unplug the connection first it is under your dash. once it is unplugged you can do whatever you want with it.

one you steering wheel wasn't staright when you took it off was it? you need the line to be exactly at the top or else your @!#$. after that it is just a game of lining it up and bolting it on. any chance your somewhat close to akron, ohio.

Im not worried about it being strait because its maked i know where strait is. I dont think you guys are understanding my question. an believe me im not some noob but this just isnt working. If i put the hub on and tighten the middle bolt all the way their is still a whole inch before it would be tight enough to hold it in place.

Hope you can get all this figured out. No shop will go near that without an airbag, specially since you just violated state and federal laws by removing the entire system, lol.

Nah this is informational only. i would never drive a car that didnt meet state and federal laws.

So any updates on this topic, i have been interested in doing this myself and getting rid of the driver and passenger side airbag, you can sell them on ebay pretty easy.

I would like to see the finihed product if you have it all done and a list of what parts you used?
