Hurst pistol grip shifter......
Monday, June 13, 2005 7:41 PM
I'm sure I'm going to be made fun of for this, but I wasn't having much luck finding it on my own. I've always wanted a pistol grip shifter for my car. Thing is, I have an automatic. Easy find if I had a stick, but if I bought a 5spd, I would just continue to get speeding tickets(standards are SO much fun to drive!!!) Any info on where to find one(if there is one for an automatic) would be great. It doesn't have to be "Hurst" brand, but I figure the name would describe what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Let me clarify, it's the "T" style pistol grip. How would it work with the stick version? How would I make it so I can push in the button?

When you push the button it pulls up the plastic rod inside the pipe/tube whatever you wanna call it. So logically if you took off your origanl shifter handle and removed the platic rod, you'll be able to shift by pulling it...if i'm wrong i know someone will correct, i own a manual cavy so i'm not 100% sure..but basically its on those lines

Actually, it pushes down that rod.

ok so then you would just jam the rod down in place to move the shifter freely ..no?? theres gotta be a way to mess around with the shifter linkage to make it move freely with out the rod..but jamming it into place seems like the easiest root to take

you cant jam it into place or else you will not be able to take your keys out of your ignition because the shifter will not lock into th park position

take an e-brake handle off a second gen... Turn it upside down, put it on. You'll need to modify the screw so you can mount it to the shifter, but it will have a pistol-esque grip and a button to move your shifter into/out of gear. I was going to do it to my car, but I cant find an e-brake handle around here.

I used to have aa automatic '69 Camaro with the type of shifter you are talking about. Man, I wish I still had the car. The shifter had a rod of the outside of the shaft with a grip at the top of the rod that you could use the tips of you fingers to pull up on, making the shift possible. The grip sat just below the shifter handle. I will look around to see if I can find pictures of it.

The handle in that picture is exactly what I'm looking for. I guess if I can't get it, I'll have to do the next best thing.......... Get a car it will fit with! If there is any other input, that would be great.
