I've been looking for a glow cluster for my 98 Cavalier (automatic, no tach). I don't like the look of the reverse glow ones on Ebay, as my interior has a black/gray scheme, the white would be horrible.
My question is, would
THIS cluster work in my car? It looks exactly the same, but my car is an automatic and that cluster is for manual. I'm guessing that the manual one would have a shift light that would simply never be used in my car, and it would work otherwise. Is that right?
I don't see why not as it's an overlay.
Thanks. My main concern was with any wiring hookups it might have for the lights. I've not messed with gauges before, so I'm not certain about how it all works.
Doubt it'd get 23 more orders anyway
I got another idea. Would it be possible to remove the lighting elements from a reverse glow gauge set and put it onto the stock gauges so they glow blue? What about putting the reverse glow set behind the stock overlay so the blue would shine through? That would be a lot cheaper than spending $110 on a speedhut custom set.
unless you know circuitry and are very savvy with a soldering iron i wouldnt recommend it...maybe if you have an spare cluster layin around do that
but thats just me..i've done BLUE LEDs behind the cluster before, looks pretty good, but imma order the speed hut ones soon anyway...will accent my black glassed interior nicely
Speedhut is highly recommended in my book. Excellent Quality. I have everything they make and I'm working on getting more stuff done for the Cavaliers.
Everything I've read on here recommends Speedhut. If they made the gauges for my car, I'd definetly go there, but if I ordered, there'd still need to be 23 more before it'd be tooled.
If you manage to get them to make the parts for a 98 without tach, I'd be thrilled.
Right now I'm trying to get enough people together to get them to make the HVAC face for the 03-05s and we're almost there. If this one is successful, I'd be willing to help you get more people for the cluster you need.
Not that I'm knocking the older Cavs (I used to have a '97) but it's going to get tougher to get new things made for them as they get older. People like me will be in the same boat in a few years (In fact, a lot of companies have already started the process of phasing us out).
Does Speedhut make one for your year WITH tach? May be easier for you to find a new cluster in a junkyard, etc. Even if it's not in great shape, the Speedhut will cover most of it.
Good Luck!

THIS is the closest they have. Would a cluster from that year work in a 98? I also don't know how to hook up a tach. I'm pretty sure I could manage to unplug one cluster and plug another in its place, but I don't know about making new connections and running wires all over to make a tach work.
