Ok, i know it's kinda weird, but i put my key in..twist, nothing happens for a good 5-8 seconds, then it finally opens...when i push the button inside the car, it opens instantly. What is going on here? This just started a few days ago, and used to work fine. Anyone have a similar problem?
Did you try pulling up on the lid after you turn the key...
yea, it's weird...it's like there is a long delay or something before the latch gets activated
Maybe the wire that pops the lock is broken or teh casing where it winds up is...
its just making sure your key is real. try cleaning off your key. What is happening is that the sensors are having a little trouble reading your key. Maybe some pocket lint or something, Just check it and shine it up a little.

there are sensors in the trunk that read the key?

are you F'ing kidding me? I'd love to hear an explanation of this one...Do you have the key turned while your pulling up on the trunk, or do you turn the key, take it out, then it takes a few seconds to open, could be sticking on the rubber surroud, that can happen if its cold or hot outside, and the tension bars have just enough strength to eventually open the trunk. you'll need to describe it EXACTLY how it happens for an explanation...

Um... yea
There's no sensors in the trunk lock, unless you consider the tumblers inside the lock to be sensors. There's no electronics that read the key tho, that's only in the ignition lock cylinder.
Like cmunn said, it could be that the weatherstripping is sticking, spray it down w/ some anti-freeze spray. I can't remember the exact name, but it's this silicon stuff you spray on the weatherstripping in the winter so your doors don't freeze shut. You should find it in auto stores now since it's getting colder out.
My 04 cav does that every once in a while, I have to turn the key and hold it there for a few seconds and it will pop, but when i hit the button, it opens instantly. its not from cold cuz mine has done it for about 6 mo now, i usually use the button any way, not the key, so im not too worried about it and im also going to rig something up where i can lower my seats with out opening the trunk, that way if my battery is dead and i dont want to deal with the key, ill just opend the seats.
04 Cav 2.2 Ecotec
i turn the key and hold it there for a good 5 seconds...then u will hear the "pop" and it unlatches....it doesn't unlatch right away and then not come up....it takes a long time to unlatch. Any ideas?
well, today it took a good 15 seconds to open. Twist the key and nothing happens, hold it there for 15 seconds...i will finally hear the "pop"...and it will open
WTF?? Go to the junkyard and get a cable/latch from another Cav/Fire. You don't need the key cylinder, the cable dis-connects from it. That's some messed up stuff lol
Mine usually takes a double turn... First time doesn't usually work, second time always does. Button inside works just fine. Very odd, but I'm not to worried. My trunk latch quit working last year while under warrenty, so I have no idea. I'd say hit up a junkyard for a "new" one.
I actually have the same problem but opposite, When i use my key it opens up perfectly no problem, when I use the button either on the remote or inside the car, it takes at least ten seconds to finally open if not more, i have gone to the dealer for it before cuz once my trunk opened and then wouldnt shut at all, they said something to do with the latch and claimed they fixed it yet now i have this problem, if you find a solution let me know
it's started to get a little better...now only a few seconds....if the problem comes back, i'm gonna take it to the dealer and get them to cover it under warranty.
