Just as the topic states guys. Since my tint is over five years old now its starting to show its age with the purple discoloration, etc. I was wondering if you all had any tips of stripping tint of windows since I would like to do this before my car is back on the road. Any steps or anything I should take?

All you need is a full bottle of windex, a razor blade and about 3 hrs. of free time.
I've done this a few times and I think the tint comes off easier at cold temperatures. Just start at the top till you can get a good grip on the tint, pull down with one hand and scrape down with the other. Just make sure you put a lot of windex so you don't scratch the window.
get a heat gun and heat up the outside of the glass, stay away from rubber and seals though, as soon as it is warm use something to peel up a corner and pull evenly and not too fast following on the outside with the heat. should take ten minutes
Windex and razor blades work fine for the sides.
Rear window with defroster lines is a whole different story...
First try windex and razor blades (Not!!! on the back window you'll end up cutting the rear defrost lines!!) If your finding windex and a razor isn't doing much try a heat gun or blow dryer. If there's glue still on there. Use just a little thinners on a clean rag and a dry rag to wipe it off right after the thinners are applied.Then use the windex

I was going to remove the tint from around 1993 on my non-j-body. I was going to use the steamer technique that can be found on TintDude. I talked to the tinter I goto, and he said that was fine, but suggested that he did the removal, since he knows how to do it. He mentioned that if I did the removal, he could not held responsible for any residue left which might cause white spots or bubbles.
So, I let him do the removal for $70. He started at around 8:30am, and was done, with a retint, by 3:30pm. he said it was one of the worst removals he has done. It was like there was two layers, even though it was only one. I knew the tint was fragile, and pry came off in tiny pieces.
I removed the tint on the sides with windex and razor blades. Removed, and then windex/bladed four additional times just to make sure there was no adhesive left.

ok one more time I have worked on 53' trailers with grafix's that were all the way from top to the bottom and side to side I could strip a whole side in half a day using a steamer and a razor of heat gun and a razor worst case spray can paint stripper. There's no way that it takes a whole day just to remove window tint unless your new at working with tools #1 metal (Razor) will scratch glass. Thats why we use windex it makes the razor flow better # 2 A heat gun is used to heat up the glue holding the tint. Making it softer. And being able to remove the tint without it breaking off in your hand. Some people do this in there driveway and do not own a heat gun. A blow drier works as well. # 3 Left over glue after the tint is removed: It don't know what the "pros" use at tint shops But at most bodyshop that I've worked at we use Acetone and/or paint thinners and lots of dry rags when we replace a window and the customer no longer wants the tint on the other 3 windows. Remember to tape off the top of the inside doors just in case of any run off thinners dripping down p.s. there shouldn't be that much on your rag 4 that to happen. When using thinners/acetone were gloves and put a little muscle in it. rub with the thinners then a dry rag right after the glue should roll into balls of glue. it will get messy. after all the glue comes off there will be streaks from the thinners. Use some windex to clear it up. #4 DO NOT! use a razor on the back window you will shave the defroster line off and break the circuit rendering the defroster useless If there's anything i left out let me know. I answered this post for the ones that wanta save a buck are two and do it them selfs (wisdom comes for those who ask) hope it helped
