Help in removing the rear dash
Thursday, April 06, 2006 12:55 PM
I just purchased a 3 way 6 x 9 JBL speakers and I'm ready to place them in my car. I've been following guides from the internet on how to remove the rear dash however I'm confused on how to, "pull the rear seat belts through the slots in the back deck, and then pull the slots inward a bit."

I hope someone can help clarfiy this for me. Picture would be a bonus.

pull down the seat and yank the carpet piece off its not held on by any retainers or anything.

^^^that isnt true. theres a few retainers, one being the 3rd brake light(assuming you have one) and you have all the plastic pieces that surround the child safety latches.

id suggest pulling the rear interior panels down a little bit, then it will slide out with much more ease.

well when i put my pioneer six by nines in my rear deck, i just laid down the seat, then theres two plastic peices you need to pop retainers on...
then, i had three hooks for like, a child seat to anchor too. around those are plastic cups, you pop those out and you should be able to pull the carpet right out.
thats how i did it.

Once you start pulling, it should be pretty obvious how the seatbelts come through...

lol, well id say my car is probably just a TAAAAD different (01 cav) so its probably a different setup, but all the basics should still be there, so it should probably be the same procedure overall

you can bend it a little in the middle as your pulling on it. its a lot easier to get out.

So if you have the triangle pieces off you should see where the belts go into the rear deck. Around the slots for the belts is a plastic ring. On the bottom of the ring is a cut that runs to the bottom of the deck lid. Just pull the belts out through there. Once that is out, just pull the lid stright out.

Just be careful that you don't break the outside flaps that the cut makes. Its not going to hurt anything if you do since they won't rip off, its just annoying since you know its now broke.

If you are still having problems let me know and I'll get pictures for you.
