I am following the HOW TO for painting your interior on here and when I went to try to find the 3M products this guy who's been to paint school and what not was telling me that I really should use an adhesive promotor before painting anything. It doesn't say anything in the HOW TO about this. Whats everyone's opinion on this? Do I need it?
adhesion promoter is just a spray, in a can, plain n simple. it supposedly helps alot when painting plastics, etc. its like 10-15 bucks for the can, and if you're doing a lot of interior painting, it might be worth it.

You can use adhesion promoter if you would like. Basically, if you clean the piece and prime it, you shouldn't need adhesion promotor, but it doesn't hurt. The reason you use primer is because it sticks to the surface, and paint sticks to it. This is why some people who don't prime their pieces run into trouble.

I am redoing my interior with PPG, and I purchased PPG's adhesion promoter, basically it is a primer used on plastics, tahts all.
Would sanding still be required if an adhesion promoter is used? If yes, would the adhesion promoter be used instead of primer, then sanded, etc?

Sand and use an adhesion promotor. Alsom be sure to use some kind of wax and grease remover for final prep. I can almost gaurantee that within a couple of years of not using an adhesion promotor or properly prepping (if spraying through an HVLP gun) that it will either crack, or pull away from the plastic because of the heat built up in the interior during summer months.

i have also been to a paint school and you do need to sand, you do need to use adhesion promotor, but dont use wax and grease remover on plastic your paint could fish eye because the plastic will absorb it just use plain soap and water before spraying and prime....remember in between coats of primer make sure you sand that down or you will be getting no where

so say do two full coats of primer let it fully dry then sand and repeat. That kinda thing. Until I get a nice smooth scratch free surface

Mines going on a year and i used bulldog and no problems yet. I guess its just up to you if you want to use a promotor but better safe than sorry i guess.

sand with 80 grit till all the grain is gone, then sand with 180 then 220, then primer with a high build primer from a hvlp gun. wetsand with 400 grit, the spray base and 2 coats of clear, then wetsand with 1500-2000 grit and buff.

Like he said. Make sure you wetsand and buff. Itll make it look 100 times better.
